[WIP] Fuu Half-Kaiser

Hey, I've been working on a half Kaiser template just for fun. I'm doing Fuu from Samurai Champloo.
I know it's not the best and needs improvement, but I'm pretty new to spriting.
Here she is:

First one is the old, second one is the newest update.

I think it's good. :) However, add some more shading to the kimono and increase the contrast on the hair.

Keep up the good work!

It's off to a good start, but there is a bit of light pillowshading with the kimono. Also, the hair needs a lot more shading and contrast. If you don't mind, i could edit it to show you a proper way (or a different way)

Edit: also, it's way tioo squarish in some parts, and too symmetrical...

Sure, if you would show me a nice way I wouldn't mind at all; I'd appreciate it very much! :)
Any techniques would be good. Thanks

Ok so check this out. Yours is to the right, mine is on the left.

Notice how on my sprite, the corners are more rounded giving off more of a natural look as opposed to the blockyness some parts of your sprites have. You have a great start with Fuu, and I used it as a base to do my version of the sprite.

With your more updated version, your pillow shade actually got worse lol. It's a common misconception, as many people will resort to pillowshading. The problem with shading in general is that there are so many ways to accomplish a desired effect. usually for most sprites, the shadow should be emphasized on the lower right corner (as seen with mine) Also try using a variety of shades for each color to make it look nice. you can expirement with many different styles until you find one that works. My only big quirk was really the pillow shading and the squarness of your spirte. Keep at it tho! I think you can do great things with this!

I think it looks great the way is... It acttually matches the dark, dull colors of Samurai Champloo. I don't now why but it does look abit flat...

J.D. Slasha: Maybe it's just me or does your shading..it looks really sharp like a button or something rather than clothing. I guess that's just how you do it and nobody should knock you for that :)
