Windows XP Vs. Ubuntu Linux --- HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!

The major limitation to VMWare and other virtualization aps is no hardware video acceleration. That means no 3d games, slow 3d rendering in modeling programs, and a variety of other problems. It's less than ideal solution. However on the upside there is a way to integrate virtualbox with linux seamlessly so that you can basically be running both OS at the same time in the same interface.

Check out this article on Lifehacker for details.

Yes you're right. Thanks for the link. However,
Somebody managed to get a hand on an internal beta build of VMware Fusion whose UI offers a way to accelerate 3D graphics in virtual machines, and even made a video of some serious 3D gaming action in Fusion.
See the article here: http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2007/2/8/6960
There's also a YouTube video of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xF_CoXsXtk4

I don't know if it's fake or not but, if it's real, it's really impressive and I'll definitely give it a try as soon as the public beta of VMWare Fusion will be available.

Yeah I'm aware of that, it works with some bugs :) However VMWare fusion is not free so you have to decide whether the associated cost is worth the setup.

Ok! I JUST got ubuntu 8.04 working (with wubi, so I still can choose windows)

Now I have a few questions how to get WINE and maybe how to use it.

Also maybe explain a little about Beryl and some eye-candy and what I have to do to achieve this?

~(Also sorry if I seem a bit demanding, just a little tired from the first few days of school so my typing  is sketchy)

For Wine, just go to console and type "sudo apt-get install wine", easy as that. After installing it you should be able to run Windows .exes through wine automatically with various levels of success. Check out a tutorial for thorough usage directions, there are plenty of good ones in the Ubuntu forums for instance.
Beryl is a little more complicated because you need to get 3d support working before you can use its features. You'll have to check for a tutorial on that, too, but I promise the info is out there and really easy to find. Just head over to the Ubuntu forums on the official site and browse around; I rarely run into a problem that I can't find an answer to there.

Thank you!

I recently installed Photoshop 7.0 with WINE and I have beryl (Now called Compiz Fusion).

So far I am loving it! Would anyone like to share their personal set-up and how  they got to it? Currently I have the cube and a few other things but that's it because I don't know how to get certain features.

Im New To Here But Im Not New To Computing So my advice is to either Dual Boot XP and Ubuntu or just Ubuntu

If You Choose to Dual Boot Download From Here http://ultimateedition.info/Ultimate_Ed ... /#download

Then Burn To CD/DVD either 1 and boot from it after all is loaded click on the install icon on the desktop wait and depending on your language press english on the left hand side then next i think its the section where you choose your partions :P and up the top there is a bar which would say on 1 section Ubuntu 8.04 and the other Windows XP and there you can use a GUI to resize your partions and when you have the right sizes you like press next at the next screen you will be prompted with personal info such as : User name, Password etc when thats all filled in click next and you will be prompted with "Do you wish to import files from XP" or something along those lines if you want to click yes then continue then let the installation go when its installed reboot and there will be a thing called grub and you can choose either XP or Ubuntu to boot into :p and this will happen every boot :P

Option 2

Or Just Install ubuntu (no spyware, Viruses or Worms) and you can still run RMXP but not as well (you cant use the menu but you can press F1 F2 F3 ETC)
##############################EDIT#################################

All the things you want to run all work on Ubuntu Hopefully if u install them right

Gutsy did have some issues for the first couple weeks but it's been patched into stability. There are applications for just about anything in Ubuntu, what were you having trouble finding?
