Will items such as "Guard Source" mess up Stat Growth?

Heya all,
Here's my question.

Alright, say I have an item such as Guard Source (DEF+ items). Say I use enough of them, will this mess up the curve growth bit in the Database? (Say I manage to make my DEF higher at level 10 then the growth at level 11 is).

Nope.  That's why the ability grid works.  It increases the stats of a character through events, so their database stats are completely even.  This would mean that they would gain stats, then lose them when they leveled up if the database overwrote their stats.  I'm not exactly sure if it will add to the stats if they're higher than they should be (although I'm almost certain it will), but it will never decrease.  You can always make a test game where you give a character a massive attack, memorize that attack value, then level him up and see what happens to make sure.

I think that the growth curve symbolizes just that -- growth. The amount by which the stats increase with each level up, not their hard-and-fast values for each level. If Chess is level 1 with 5 STR and will gain 10 STR when he reaches level 2, and I give him some back-alley medication to increase his STR by 5, he should have 20 STR at level 2 -- 5 from level 1, 5 from the back-alley meds, and 10 from the level up.

Then again, I'm not sure how the formula works, but it only seems reasonable to have a growth curve symbolize growth and not the stats themselves.

That's what I was hoping for, you know, the logical thing.
But Enterbrain... not so logical sometimes.
