Wii Question [URGENT]

I'm at Tokyo right now. My mum is buying me a Wii. Since I'm from Malaysia, she asks me whether I want to buy a Wii here at Japan or at Malaysia, which is more expensive. My question is, will a Japanese Wii be able to play games from other countries other than from Japan? I really need to know, as I'm leaving the day after tommorow.

I need your help:s

There might be a difference in plugs and stuff like that. I'm not sure about foreign places like Malaysia and stuff but I now a Japanese Wii wouldn't work with American TVs and power plugs. It'd be safer to get one from your own country.

What does it mean region locked? Anyway, so all of you are suggesting I buy a Wii at my own country? Answer quickly cause today is the last day I can go out here.

Yes. buy it in your own country, because if you don't, one of the following will probably happen:

You won't be able to hook it up to your TV.

You won't be able to plug it into your electrical socket.

You won't be able to play games that you buy in your own country.

Wait just got some information from my dad. He said our TV is a Japanese TV, so I can hook it up. And I have the thing which enables different plugs from different countries.....so what now?

Uh, unless your TV is a TV that you bought in Japan, and not just a Japanese brand, then it probably won't hook up.

Anyway, I still say wait. Unless you only want to play games that purchased in Japan.

games are region locked like DVDs.

Here's the region map of the world. If two countries are the same colour, games and DVDs are interchangable between the countries. If they are not, it won't work.

Actingman, I swear, if you don't stop spamming threads, I'm gonna report you so fast... Anyway, just stop.

Also, the PS3 has hardly any good-quality games. Also, that was off-topic.

I've had a Wii since launch, it sucks.

Get a 360, if you already have one get a PS3.

He has a good point, though. Chill out!

As for the topic -- Always buy from your own country to avoid any miss-haps. It's worth the extra money just to ensure that you can happily use it without question, No?

That's not true, at least for America and Japan. NA and JP share the exact same plugs.
