Why Japan should never, EVER get liscenses to american shows....

Ixis, I do know where you're coming from, but stuff like this happens all the time, usually without it being an attempt to cash in on the name. I think the way it usually works is that a story idea that is major in one country is picked up by the other with the intent of faithfully reproducing it with some modification to suit the time/place, which is totally acceptable. Then either the changes get out of control, or more often what happens here goes on: some investor gets an idea into their head and pushes it all out of shape. It happens with remakes in a single culture too. Look how many remade movies/stories updated to the times lose total grip on what they were about in the first place.

Anyway, that is likely why Toei bought the license... to reproduce the spiderman story, modified to suit a Japanese audience but essentially the same idea. Even if his origins and secret identity were different, people would complain equally if it was a green-suited Arachnoman with all spiderman's powers (plus giant robot) but produced without even a nod to Marvel.

I liked it. It gave a different approch to Spider-Man. I wouldn't mind seeing it redone to suit the times. I'm just wondering about the Marveller... It is an oddity among the Sentai... It doesn't fit him... A genie... :P

And the guy that mentioned Power Rangers as an american show... It was Japanese first... :) It like Masked Rider, Big Bad Beatleborgs, and the like were adapted from japan to fit our ideas. They just did the same thing to Spider-Man... :)

To sum it up, I like it. I've Watched 3 episodes so far. It may have its bumps but all and all it works.

Honestly, the American attempts to create Spider-Man TV shows have never been so great either. Yeah this is cheesy, but check out that original 60s cartoon. Or the spin-off pairing him, inexplicably, with Iceman and Firestar? Or the 70s live-action one? Or the 90s one that threw all notions of coherent pacing out the window. A silly Japanese interpretation? Bring it on...not like any more damage can be done.

Spiderman and his Amazing Friends, huzzah! Indeed, after that there wasn't much left to damage Spiderman in my eyes.

I could do without the Giant Robot though. At least the opening translation was funny. "OMFG that's a giant robot!"

Hey, it's like the Japanese powerpuff girls where they were turned into magical girls and got cool looking weapons. To an extent things happen like this all the time when things are taken from other countries. I watched a Bollywood version of 7 brides for 7 brothers, which deviated heavily from the actual original film/musical (probably adapting it to Indian audiences), but I guess unlike this Spiderman one, the adaption was pretty good.

It's something that happens everywhere. In a bit of a reversal, the long running Sabrina comics went "Manga"-styled. In addition to the art change, all of a sudden Sabrina's favorite food is Okonomiyaki, she wears kimonos, has a blue haired boyfriend named Shinji and Salem looks like a plush animal instead of an actual cat. I don't understand why they had to go through all that trouble, I mean come on:

Anyways, on topic. I guess this really isn't a first.

Cultural differences...old...nothing new...really. Though I still am bothered by that Korean Streetfighter series.....*shudders*

Well, I hope that if I make any IP it doesn't get as distorted as this...

... Unless they turn it into a porn game. Then I want copies...
