Why all the hate....

...about MS Paint?  I've used it for all my spriting and customizing needs, and it does everything i've asked it to do.  Need to change colors? Done.  Sprite a corner?  Finished in a snap.  New table?  Easy peasy.  The only thing it can't do is tint, and all I need for that is Microsoft Office Picture Manager.  I keep hearing about GIMP and etcetera - what makes them so much better?

Who hates MS Paint?  If it can do the job for you great.  If it can't then use something else.  Who hates it?  Quality is seen in a finished product, not it's process.

There's nothing wrong with paint for simple tasks but it's archaic and out of date when compared to better image editors.  There are people who can literally create the Mona Lisa in paint but I guarantee you could have done it faster and more efficiently in something else.

The end product is really all that matters but you can normally tell the difference between someone using mspaint and someone using photoshop.

EXACTLY

Careful, dude, this is awfully close to spam. Don't just pop in to agree with everything -- you should at least contribute something to the discussion. That is, no useless one-word posts.

I use paint.net for the little things that I do, and I'm addicted to the concept of layers.  Layers are key.  I couldn't use MS paint if it doesn't have 'em.

I use MS paint for the bulk of my spriting with graphics gale on the side if I need to rotate something, use actual layers, or choose colors. MS paint is perfectly fine otherwise.

If there's one thing I have to say about MS Paint. It would be to not choose colors in it. I hate it's color picker so much.

Yep, kinda like Skye here, Just that I use photoshop and Photoimpact SE on the side with paint as main tool. I love pain´t line tool and how it it doesn´t treaten to destroy my computer by draining its memory like Photoshop does XD

Paint's great for spriting, since it's such a nice simple program and doesn't have anything that would distract from that. For anything other that spriting Paint's pretty much absolutely useless, which is why I use photoshop for everything else. But for pixel-placing in a nice 10x zoom, nothing beats Paint.

I've been using MS Paint until now, specially for sprites.
It's a nice, simple, and easy to use image editor I knew. Nothings wrong with that.
I just use Canvas 11 for making alpha channels.

Graphics Gale (even the shareware edition) is not very accurate with alpha channels.
Though it can make transparency but not able to make translucent colors. Am I right?

Gale supports full transparency in png formats and doesn't have any alpha issues that I'm aware of.

It's not that Paint can't get the job done, it's a matter of having the best tool for the task.  Your work will not suffer for using Paint, that's dependent on your talent; having a better tool will make doing the work more enjoyable, faster, and less frustrating.

People hate on Paint because once you've used anything better Paint is like driving nails with a rock for lack of a hammer.
