white/black box around everything!

ok so i have been having some trouble with rpg maker xp... for some reason when ever i place an object there is this white box around it! and in the test play it turns into a black box! can someone please help! heres a pic of it

You should place those items on layer 2.

Everything is on the wrong layer. on layer 1 put all the grass on layer 2 put all the buildings and bushes etc and on layer 3 put all the windows and chimneys. The layers are located in the toolbar above the project.
