Where can I find a good laptop for under 299 pounds? (I'm not a bot)

Can anyone tell me where to get the best possible laptop for 299 pounds? Thanks. :)

By best possible, I mean best spec. like 2gb memory, 120 gb hard drive, hd monitor, directx10 compatible pre-installed graphic cards..

I would have no idea how to assemble one, I might have to just google so tutorials..

I edited your title to remove the caps, please don't do that again. It's very obnoxious. ~N

Well, it really depends what you're going to be using it for.

If you're not all that interested in gaming on it, you could easily get an Asus eee - if small size is an issue, the 1000 series is larger than the other ones, while still being quite affordable.

If you're technologically minded, (and very much so) I'd build one yourself. You can buy a barebook and outfit it with all the stuff you need, which is generally much cheaper than buying an equivalent factory-model notebook. However, it can be difficult, so if that's not you you'd be better off with something that's already been made/assembled for you.

As well, deals are your friend.
Often, before the school year starts up, most electronics stores will discount laptops/notebooks/etc to levels that are hard to get elsewhere. Other than that, it's up to you and how hard you're willing to look.

What gratheo said. You won't find anything but netbooks for that price though. Netbooks and budget cheap laptops.

Unless you want an EEE PC.

Also, full caps aren't cool unless you're the Des.

Get an Acer Aspire One. Same thing as the eeepc, but the base model is a bit better (processor speed is 1.6 Ghz instead of 900/600 Mhz). Not sure If you can get them in the uk though. If not, just get an eeepc.

Jesus Christ, a friend of mine has been bugging me with the same question for fucking WEEKS. I'll contact him and ask.

...and If you don't like the thought of single core processors you can always wait for Atom's dualcore models by the end of the year : )

Not to mention that the specs you request are definitely not in the range of a budget laptop at that price. At most, you'll probably get an integrated crap GPU.

You'll be paying a lot more than 1000USD for that capability- If you want to play games, just get a desktop.

I'm searching for the same thing myself, for my 18th BD pressie. There are literally hundreds out there with that spec; try searching the Interwebz.

The one I'm getting is only £239.12, it's an Asus Eee PC, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, and WinXP. Not brilliant, and only a 9'' screen, but then I need a small laptop for transportability and discreetness ('tis for schoolins). But with that extra £60 lying around the RAM could be upgraded to up to 2 GB, not sure about the HDD, and Vista could probably be installed (though that would cost you a lot more).

The one I pointed him towards was a dual core.

It was also  2gb ram, 160gb hd, and Vista.  The screen was 15.6 widescreen.  I say was because now it is sold out.

Don't know if you can get it in UK though.

You can, but they add a few hundred quid onto the price. It's just about impossible to convert from US$ to UK£ as everything is more expensive here :/

I just bought my laptop anyway, £279 from Currys (probably should have looked elsewhere to find it cheaper, but meh). It's an... Advent Netbook.

Intel Atom Processor (not sure on the spec)
1 GB RAM
80 GB HDD
10'' Screen
Windows XP Home
Built in wireless, bluetooth, webcam, mic

I think the main issue is the video card- As I recall, most netbooks don't have very powerful graphics cards. That might hinder on having DirectX 10 compatibility.

HEY THANKS SHADOW FOR RUINING MY JOKE
IM GOING TO SAY IT ANYWAY THOUGH BECAUSE MINES BETTER AND FITS INTO THE TOPIC BETTER

You shouldn't have a difficult time finding a laptop that's under 299 pounds. Every laptop that I've ever seen has been significantly under that.
