Welcome to HBGames, a leading amateur game development forum and Discord server. All are welcome, and amongst our ranks you will find experts in their field from all aspects of video game design and development.

Where are you in your project right now?

School has been placing all kinds of unwelcome pressures on myself. Because I deigned to have a bit of a social life this weekend, I basically got nothing done for an entire week. :| I guess I'm lucky that I have two team-mates who can I can basically loan time to for weeks like this. Balancing my final semester (19 hours) and gamedev is a ridiculous act.

I don't know what else I can add to my market section.

I have a church, a town square-thing (with a fountain!), a smithy, an apothecary, and an inn/tavern. What else would I need? There's space left. O_O

I found out I'll probably be helping my sister watch the kids for a week in-case the daycare closes again because of the weather. She can't afford to take more time off work.
I don't really know how this is going to work. I mean, I'll have time to work on my project. But its a different environment, I don't think I'll be able to focus. It'll be a different state of mind.

@stawberrii: Butcher, Baker, and candlestick maker. A starbucks on every corner. But seriously, you're just creating services for the player. Now make the town lively by filling it with other superficial stuffs. Horse stables. Postal service. Library. Bath house.

Started a new one project. This project will be posted to a blog with annotated YouTube videos. Its a platformer (I know, I know. Indie's first game! ;) )

I have recently learned how to do proper hit collision in Flash (can't believe it took so long...), so I have implemented gravity, jumping and hit collision below you. As well as the portrait design of the character in the game.

Experiencing email problems. Haven't heard from anyone in a while. Couldn't stay away from the forums. Might as well post something I've done recently. Do I still get points for posting in here?

I was hoping to accomplish more this week. There's still tomorrow. Also I think I found the secret to overcome resistance. You know, what leads to procrastinating. Maybe. It's only been a couple days. I'll share more when I come back from my hiatus.

I'm not really sure how much I have actually planned. I mean, I have a solid idea of how the game is going to start, what the heroes do, why they know how to fight beyond generic soldier-ness, etc.

The problem at the moment is an antagonist, and putting everything into practice.

Considering how Star hasn't technically used RPG Maker XP in months due to a long hiatus from Ghost Shards, I'm thinking I should convince him to have us make some sort of adventure game-thing to get him in the swing of things.

I hope it works!

Looking good... I think...
Huehue. Thanks!
Reggie background aside, I'm currently working on getting some animation going.
Just a simple sliding animation. Not sure how well this is going to go...

Edit: Okay, so although this is fairly simple and could look nice, it's most likely way too much trouble for what it's worth. I'm not going to abandon it though... I just need to put more thought into it...

IIRC huge maps like that tend to perform badly. That might have been on maps even larger, though (like 300x300+ maybe?).

I generally stick to 50x50 maps or 75x75 for towns.

I am now wondering if it would be easier to convey "open world" with a world map or several 100x100 field maps together? o.o
100x100 maps would be better for efficient mapping since it (should/)would be easy to keep track of which areas are what, where as if you have one LARGE map it would be harder.

This thing I'm working on is taking a lot longer that I thought it would. I might just sleep on it ;)

Okay, so it may only be slight progress, but it's progress nonetheless!
Basic (oneway) attacking works now.
I need to get enemies attacking + turn order working, then I can expand and add skills and shit!

Jason has been suggesting some really REALLY cool ideas for this that I'll try implement as soon as possible!
This is exciting. I'm enjoying working on this.

Awesome Bro

Yeah, some of the concepts we've got for it are really interesting, I think if anything actually comes of this, even if it only ends up being the battle engine itself, you guys will find it interesting... we should make a proper thread for it eventually, lol.

Also I made us a cool logo!

So as far as story and characters go, I think I have just about enough to work with to start up a concept development thread. I still need to define a clear antagonist, though, and I also need to get a more concrete idea of what kind of gameplay would suit this project best.

Seeing as the game revolves around three parties of two characters, it's obvious that whatever gameplay style I decide on needs to have a strong reliance on synergy between party members. In the beginning of the game, the main duo, Gwen and Ulrich, have only just been paired together by the organization both serve under. It's not accurate to say either of the two are "green," but both have a long way to go before mastering their respective arts and, more importantly, neither of them have any experience working together. I want the player to not only see Gwen and Ulrich grow stronger as individuals, but to realize on their own how the pair's abilities come to compliment each other.
