What sort of gamer are you?

All through high school we had our little gaming group. There were folks who came and went but mainly it was the three of us.

Me? I was an adventurer, an explorer; I would generally take time finishing a game exploring all the areas and so on.
#2 was a cheater. A macroer, a hacker, everything under the sun.
#3 was a tortoise. :x He used to farm everything, albeit very slowly.

Generally what would happen was: I would find a game, and rise up the leaderboards getting a respectable level in the group. #2 would then start playing and instantly grap the #1 spot and then get bored again. #3 would have started by now - the first two would have got bored, but they'd carry on forever and ever and ever until eventually becoming the #2 in the group.

I'm not sure who's tactics were best. #3 always cheated, so it's a given they'd be top.

Me, I was always on top for the longest time, and I like to think I got more out of the games, but then at the end of it all the tortoise was always the one with the best account (i.e. highest level but hadn't been banned for cheating :x)

Awesome Bro

Hmm, what sort of gamer am I...

I'd say I'd be the tortoise too, especially when it comes to RPG's, since I have this tendancy to get atleast 5-10 levels higher than the recommended level for a specific area of the game, y'know, to make my life easier so I don't find it ridiculously hard. Besides, I actually LIKE grinding, I know that sounds odd, but yeah, in JRPG's I'll just grind and grind and grind, as long as I've got some music playing in the background (Not the ingame music, that gets annoying after a while, no matter how good it is), then I'll just keep going and going and going lol...

I also like to make sure I've explored each and every corner of the game world, because I know that if I don't, I'll have missed out on some valuable item which could help me, and it'd be a pain in the arse to progress without it.

- I buy the game

- I finish usually finish it in less then 2 days, unless it's a REALLY long game.

- I explore the rest of the world and get most of the achievements.

My friends call me a "hardcore gamer" because I finish games so fast but I wouldn't call me that myself, because even though I finish them fast I do take time to enjoy the story and I don't really care about the achievements, I just get them for fun.
The other side of me is the angry gamer, you can often find me destroying a useless object in my room if I get stuck in the game, but I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who does that. :P

Depends on the game.

In RPG's I always try to over power myself so I don't get too much trouble up ahead. :/

In FPS's I always make sure they're two player, because I need someone to watch my back. O.O

In Survival Horrors I always make someone else play first, THEN I get some guts and try it myself (on the easiest mode of course).

:3

I'm an optimizer. I generally put some effort into deducing the best builds or strategies, then play with some arbitrary limitations to make sure the game doesn't get boring. I usually play grossly underleveled in RPGs and rotate party members to leech levels, for example.

I'm an opportunist. I will play nearly any game, but if its not fun, it goes back to the store in a couple months. I also will use guides and cheats even throughout a full game.

Also, what are peoples thoughts on what constitutes a hardcore gamer? To me, that is someone who plays non-casual games for 15-20 hours a week or more. (i play for 15-20 hours a week)

Awesome Bro

Well I wouldn't call myself a hardcore gamer, and I generally play games 2-4 hours each day, and on weekends that goes up to 8-10 hours a day depending if I'm not going out with my mates or anything...

But still, I wouldn't say I'm a hardcore gamer...

I think it's someone that, as soon as they buy a game, slap it on the hardest difficulty, and replay through it as many times as possible in a short amount of time to grab all the achievements/trophies... but that's just my opinion...

Collector, casual gamer.

I try to collect every single game out there, and get a huge as fuck library of games i'll play once and then never touch again, even though I want to.

Although when I do get serious every now and then, I'll play for about 6 hours from 10 pm until 4 am.

Funnily enough from the first post, current stats:

Adventure Quest
#1: Level 79
#2: Level 130
#3: Level 80

RuneScape:
#1: Level 96
#2: Level 138
#3: Level 97

:>

I like to make an attack plan but for the most part, I explore everything usually putting me up to par with what level I am supposed to be at. I have never been ten level over unless Im at a main boss and went back, if I could, to explore the world a bit more.

What happens to me though is I lose interest somewhat fast, and there has been few rare cases where I have actually beaten a game, first run, without quitting. I will eventually go back to the game and make a new file and redo it again, hopefully beating it. I was at the main bosses door in FF13 but I never once attempted to beat it, I lost interest. :c

I'm a 100%. I like to complete games at 100% (If it's a rational to complete) before moving to another one, I don't include being full lvl for 100%, so I normaly try to complete it at lowest lvl possible. After completing 100%, beating all difficulties and else, normaly I'm kinda bored, so I start cheating until I get bored and I change the game.

When it comes to games like GTA I never actually play the game, just drive around. Even Guild Wars completing the game only served as a means of unlocking every area of the world to explore.

High Hopes

Awesome Bro

I'm a cheater in RPG games to the extent where I create the character exactly as I want him to be, as I usually try to play a specific character in these games. I generally don't like giving myself invincibility or Superman stats in role-playing games since it seems to invalidate most of the game-play mechanics, but I will make my character more powerful than the regular character. I always seem to have more fun doing this.

In third-person games like GTA I always use cheats, get the law on my back, then start running and gunning, preferably with a rockin' song playing on my computer. Nothing like a high-speed car chase with some Hard Rock playing in the background.

As for my game playing habits, if I'm not working on something, I'm usually playing video games. I don't have many friends to hang out with, so most of my recreational time is spent playing video games.

I'm a battle strategist, reloading until I'm sure I made the best choices in battle, used the right skill or actors to win the most easily (least number of turns, least damage taken, etc).
I always play on Easy to not waste time on pointless Game-Overs, and I use cheats whenever possible. I never grind so I'm always under leveled.
If the game is based too much on grinding, I lose interest and quit.

I almost always read walkthroughs first before playing

I always play on easy

I always reload and if I can't reload to a favorable position I will quit the game for a month, and then solve the problem and then play again until I am in the unfavorable position which I quit again and will continue the cycle till I finish the game.
