What minimum resolution do you design for?

I’m just curious to know what minimum resolution your sites are designed for. I’ve been using 800x600 which can present challenges when it comes to a balance between space and information but what are your thoughts? Do you go for the higher res and forget about the others or you don’t care about it at all?

Very, very few interweb users less than 1024x768.  That's what I'd suggest.  If one of the 1 in 1,000 800x600 users have to have scrollbars, it's not a big deal.

I usually use a flexible/fixed width style that will shrink down to a minimum of 800x600 and stretch to a maximum of 1024x768 or so (using min-width and width).  It doesn't work in IE6 of course (because what fucking works in microsoft software anyway), so I'll write a seperate IE6 sheet for 800x600; you have to figure most people using such a low screen resolution, or who prefer to have a less-than-fullscreen browser window that size, will be using outdated technology anyway so IE6 is probably the browser of choice.

I usually do 1000 by 1024, the largest I've used was 1500 by 1000 for a school project on a widescreen monitor.  My smallest was 500 by 500.  I used it on a monitor from 1999 which was only 800 by 600 maximum (and minimum, as it could not be changed) resolution.
