What game has the best systems?

I'm a big fan of Final Fantasy (as i'm sure many of you are), and i'd have to say that by far my favorite is FF7. But i think that FF8's junction system may be the best system i've ever played in an RPG. What about you? what do you think is the best system in an RPG?

FF7... Dirge of Cerberus or X-2..

Those are the most recent rpg's that I enjoyed but I cant really say they're the best ever.

pokemon. They had the idea. Once you have stronger moves, you have no desire/need to use your weaker ones anymore. Plus the limitation of having 4 attacks adds an immense amount of strategy and planning.

I still hold Final Fantasy X-2 as having the best RPG battle system on the planet, approached only by Grandia 3.

Honorable Mentions for turn-based or pseudo-turn-based are Star Ocean 3 (FOUR IS COMING), FFVIII (although, it's really easily exploitable), FFVII (I'm a sucker for materia), Xenosaga III (Man, series died right when they got the formula right), and maybe a little Super Mario RPG.

I'm gonna get the biggest "DUUUHHHH!" from everyone here who knows me, but...the Tales of Destiny Remake. It was just so...fun!

There is actually tons of strategy involved in the multiplayer battles. Have you even played a Pokemon game with someone else? Almost as fufilling an experience as Super Smash Bros. Melee.

For game systems, I like Final Fantasy IX's AP system for equipping abilities. It was simple in comparison to the previous two, but so much better in my opinion.

Xenosaga: Episode I, as well. I loved learning, and transferring Ether skills, and upgrading the tech attacks. The skill extraction system sounded good in theory, but it was executed poorly.

Hell yes, multiplayer, but the game itself is basically just using super effective moves against gym leaders and leveling up.

The game itself is nothing but an introduction to the metagame. The Pok?mon metagame is probably among the deepest metagames that exist in the gaming world, tiger.

I don't appreciate Turn Based much, I'd say Oblivion has a nice RPG system, action battles and experience farm leveling system.
I also liked Pokemon battle system, but it wasn't so great, I mean, you could beat the ghost user gym leader of Gold/Silver/Crystal with Geodudes using Magnitude. It's super effective, somehow, and you can 1 hit kill his pokemons. It's easier than the first gym, actually. Yeah, it's all about grinding and using super effective attacks. Multiplayer is better.

Pokemon is about multiplayer. Singleplayer is just what you do to pass the time inbetween fights. It's probably the deepest RPG I have ever played, and one of the deepest RPGs ever made period.

Anyway, to add to the list, the Magnus system in Baten Kaitos and the new Magnus system in Baten Kaitos: Origins were both great, although not for everyone. Personally, I liked the original system, but they both are very unique and fun.

Yggdra Union's also got the whole TBS thing down very well. The union bit is very cool, allowing you to have up to 5 of your guys dog it out in a single turn. Add in the spells and special attacks you get to use, and it really seperates it from the standard TBS.

The support system in SRT:OG1 and 2 is also pretty cool. Allowing your units to assist in an attack or help take one for another unit adds alot to stratagy.

Some of the best systems I've seen in any RPG would probably be the battle system and item creation system from the Star Ocean series. I also liked Legend Of Legaia's battle system since it combines some fighting game elements into it (Special moves, input commands for combos etc).

Allow me to gush for an instant or two.

EARTHBOUND.

I dunno, they weren't incredibly innovative (in fact, their director laughingly refers to the series as "Dragon Quest with different graphics,) but the scrolling HP bars are a great idea in my eyes. They add a sense of urgency without making things feel hopeless. You take a mortal blow and you still got a few seconds to heal before you bottom out. In fact, it'd be sweet and dandy like lemon candy if someone could script such a thing.

Yeah, that's all I've got. Most of Earthbound's charm comes from the dialogue and the gameplay.

Oh, but then there's condiments.

Those are fun.

I dunno, really? I like simplicity more than anything else. It's not the bells and whistles that make a work of art. Final Fantasy IX has to be my favorite, just for that. It's one last jab at keeping things simple, functional, and fun before they catapulted themselves into brave new territories such as the Final Fantasy X battle system which I hate.

But, um, yeah. Earthbound. Get an SNES. Buy it. Buy it for your friends. Import the final installation, download the ROM of the first installation. You'll love it. If you don't, trout yogurt's on me.

... See, if you'd played Earthbound, you'd get that joke. D:<

EDIT:... Oh ye gods, I forgot about the Baten Kaitoses. The Magnus system? Most fun you'll have in a battle system, period. It's incredibly well-executed in both incarnations, with no apparent opportunity for trial and error on their part; in essence, they hit the nail on the head against all odds... Twice consecutively.

Also, Giacomo's battle themes are sweet. Trance dance suits a boss battle so poorly that it's actually really effective.
