what do you want in a pixel tutorial

hey so i'm thinkin' that im gonna write a big multipart stinky pixel tutorial.

im definitely gonna cover colors and making palettes because i know people are asking about that—in fact the general thesis is going to be a definitive lesson on my   philosophy.

i'm gonna aim for a target audience of rpgmaker users and the rpg genre in general. but what else would ya be interested in seeing?

True, but the fact that it was some time ago i forgot...
Sorry bout that.

But after re-reading it is in fact enough to get the point.
Maybe a ref is enough?

okay so I've started this. you can check it out here:

http://destut.wordpress.com/

when it's finished i plan to make a nice little page for it(maybe even a domain of its own). the wordpress is a bit unorganized but because this thing is going to take a while I'm gonna be dumping and updating it there.

I love to pixel art, but I kind of want to know, how to make your own from scratch. I'm tired of looking up references and copying directly what they have just to make my own. I'm also sick of frankenspriting RM sprites and tilesets. @_@

I guess what I'm saying is... I want to know how to pixel on my own for once. This goes the same for art, actually. Hehe.

Strawberry, there are two main approaches to pixel art. One is to blob it down and refine it later, and the other is to start with the lines and then fill it in. I do the former.

Some examples:

(from here, which is an excellent tut written by an excellent artist)

You already know how to draw, so you can pixel. Pixels are just another medium. My advice is to start small, though.

What makes a good palette and what makes a terrible palette? Contrast? Movement? Seriously though, palettes? Texturing properly? I don't know jack about spriting? Diversity in tiny details? How about /everything/ you could possibly tell us? Yes? That I would love.
