Webshops

What are they?
What is the best?

Basically, I'm going to make a webshop for someone, but I haven't done anything with them before, and I was wondering about which one is the best choice. Should I go for a commercial one, or just a free one, such as magento?

Is there anyone who knows about webshops here?

Dude, no one's going to go to a webshop. Spiders make webs for free.

You should be more specific, what kind of things are going to be sold? What sort of payment methods do you need? What sort of shipping will be used? What sort of order status tracking do you need?

hmm, it'll be 'hard' products to be sold.
It's a company that consists of 2 women who have their products sown in another country, and sell them through resellers here. now they want to be able to deliver to their clients themselves. So they want to receive orders, and be able to carry them out theirselves.

Payment methods will be things you probably don't have in america, but maybe something that is almost the same.

- Ideal
- Pay through deposit
- (maybe: pay the mailman when he delivers)

and of course paypal but that is easy enough

I'm discussing webshops with them tomorrow, but I wanted to know what the popular options were before talking business.

Ok, then the course of action I would recommend is to find a webshop script that supports iDEAL AND physical products (because there are some that are only for digital goods, though if you find one that is only for digital goods you like it probably isn't too hard to modify it to allow physical goods).

Then, for the bank deposit, when they pick that as their payment option, you want to make it so it does something like "include order number blah in the memo" because bank transfers should let you have a memo.

That means you also want to make sure you pay attention to the license, make sure it is one that allows you to modify it (most should) which means it's got to give you the source (Which most will). You should also look at a few and see which ones are designed in a way that feels natural to you so you can edit it easily.

As for the Cash on Delivery, there's really not much to that of course. Just add the payment option and there wouldn't really be any other sort of information needed. (Unless you want to add a fee for CoD)

Well, probably the biggest thing I would say is be careful. If you mess it up and people start getting charged 1000 times the normal price or something, or if something gets submitted twice, you can run into some issues.

Which brings me to the next point of checking your system for robustness. Find out what happens when someone presses the order button twice, find our what happens if someone presses the back button after pressing submit. Just check to see which errors happen. Realistically, this will probably mean just make sure you red reviews and look for instances of security flaws and such in any script you are thinking of using. The majority of your work is going to be done for you, as long as you pick the right existing application.
