WeaponOD's HKCP Contest Workshop

This is another HK WIP, that I've made... If I perfect this sprite, I may make some more and contribute to HKCP!

But enough with the dreaming, here's the sprite:

I want honest C&C, to help me get the hang of shading.

Thanks~

Well I have to get to classes, so I don't have time for an in depth critique yet, but right off the bat , I'd say you should really stay away from dithering when rendering hair... unless its an afro puff =3

Firsty it's eaiser putting all your work in one thread not multiple ones. Secondly... The body is good but the helmet needs more of an outline. It also has a slight feel of Darth Vador but that might just be me.

You've got a good point there, I may make a workshop....

1. More Outline on the helmet
2. Less Darth Vader-ness? Can you explain how he has a "Darth Vader" feel?

Thanks~

I don't see the Darth Vader reference either..but whatever lol.

I do agree that the upper body could use some sort of outline. Its hard to distinguish some of the features. Just don't over do it and make the outlines to dark or too solid.

Ialso recommend changing the gloves to maybe regular leather gloves or something not so spotty looking. It distracts from the overall sprite . It looks like your on the right path though.

Alright its better than the first, but you've kept the same shading. Its very muddy looking, and does nothing to show the shape of her head. The highlight should be a sort of "halo" shape  around the head, and try not to smoothen it out too much or it will loose its effect. The line art for the hair is decent, but I will suggest a little more contrast.

So...

1. Define Parts (not too much)
2. Change gloves to something more basic/clean.
3. Get over Darth Vader Paranoia.

Thanks~

PS: Is my shading good on steel? I've never been good at it, but I've liked the outcome of this so far.

The gloves were supposed to be chain mail, and the arms are supposed to be just plain shirt.

I was originally going to do chain mail arms, and metal grieves, but it's a bit overused imo...

Ill try adding a tint to the metal.

@ Venetia:

- I'll work on what you said.
- I hadn't made a workshop yet, because this was supposed to be practice, but merging them sounds good xD.

@ SK: Thanks, I'll finish this one first :thumb:

Much nicer!

And yeah, I'm planning on heavily revising those hkcp palettes. They're very drab, and I've learned a lot about using color since I made them initially. They work, they're just drab :P

I can't actually tell the diff from the top image and the bottom, but your revised version is MUCH better. Run with it!

Haha, He's done it, finally!

Thanks ven, coyote, sk, idunno if it's just a coincidence, but it seems i get a lot of help from you 3 especially, I learn a lot from it too.

Oh and the second addition, have a look at the fringe's shading.
