Weapon-Stealing Shooter

So after playing Mega Man Zero 4 and dicking around with the Zero Knuckle for a while, I suddenly thought: "What about a shooter where you have to steal your weapons from other ships?"

So you'd probably be piloting a giant robot, or one of those grappler-type ships like from Outlaw Star, and the only attack you'd be able to perform at the start is to reach out with either arm and grab hold of a ship to rip its weapon off of it. You could possibly hold onto two weapons at a time, and there'd be two main types of weapons: initially weaker weapons with infinite ammo that you can upgrade with normal schmup power-ups, and more powerful weapons with limited ammo, ranging from powerful spread shots to screen-clearing bombs. You can drop the weapons any time you want, and losing a life automatically makes you lose your weapons (obviously, boss battles would have to be the type that occasionally throw normal enemies at the player so they can pick up new weapons.)

I think this is a really cool idea. You may also want to consider a rock paper scissors aspect to the weapons and enemy types. Like some enemies have shields that suck up your lasers, and others have chaff that scramble your missile's targeting. You may also want to consider other kind of stealable modules like thrusters and hull plating. Like hull gives you more hit points but slow you down while thrusters make you more maneuverable. Some of the big guns prolly should slow you down, too.
