ok i have been playing it now ;o
the cartoony style up close is very reminiscent of early saturday morning cartoons, plus pokemon-styled anime. it's extremely cute, but I'll admit, it's very strange that the characters don't talk. They just emote, and subtitles appear. But all Mario/Wario/whatever games are like that anyway :P
It's in 480i so everything looks crisp and sharp on my HDTV, but though it supports widescreen, it looks like it wasn't initially designed for it, since the right and left margins are taken up by little menu reminders of what you've collected thus far.
It's VERY easy so far. Haven't died once. And in the first 3 levels I never lost a bit of life. Though I only just completed the first world so I assume it'll be harder from here on out.
There's a little thing where you make it to the end of the level, let out an elf buddy, then you have a set time limit to hoof it back to the start of the level, or else you lose all your treasure. It gets a little crazy, because after that happens a lot of avenues open up to collect treasure that you couldn't get to before.
So far, I like it. Shaking everything kinda wears out my elbow, but luckily you don't really have to shake it very hard.
The art style is VERY endearing, especially the sequences where Wario shakes his bacon @ the camera :P
There've been a number of things so far that uses Wario's various moves in interesting ways. And the first boss looks pretty cool.
Of course, there's VERY little story, and what little there is, is extremely hackneyed and laid out for you in the first 5 minutes. But it's still adorable and simple storylines are always more than acceptable for fun little platformers
