I thought I would take a crack at making a template and this is what I have so far.

Any comments and criticisms?

It looks very two-dimensional. Also, the legs seem to have pants on them- the way the come down and then square off over the ankles. the general anatomy of the body itself seems awkward (the crotch, the width/position of the arms, the details in the chest and abs).

It also seems very front-on, RPG sprites would normally be tilted at more of a top-down angle.

I will say, though- that I really like the head. Haha, good luck!

I've done a little more to it now. How would I get a top down angle? Do you also mean I should make the ankles fatter or something...? Sorry been studying all day so my head is kinda BLAH

Okay, I took some time and restructured this to show you some of the anatomy problems (the biggest fixes are circled in the image).

I went for a more bulky and muscular approach- which is my interpretation of your goal(based on the abs and drawing a dragonball character as your example).

I also realized that you have an extra color in there that isn't visible unless zoomed in. I fixed that by using your lightest color (which was actually only used on two pixels) and spreading that all over the second-lightest.

I like my results (actually, I really like them. You've rekindled my spriter's passion).

(my feet aren't actually that GOOD- I've always sucked with feet. But the idea is the same).

Well, everything he said is correct. And on the feet maybe add a lighter tone just above the shadow on the shin, it looks like its being pressed in now

I think the crotch is a little too low.

I moved it up in my version, and it looks fine clothed, as you can see in my example sprite.
