VGS HUB

I would like some of your opinions on what we have so far as for layout and design.

Quick Info

And before you ask: "VGS HUB was inspired by the MMO HUB (http://mmohub.org/) last year, but we never started it until recently. VGS HUB will provide basic information on video game software and preview them so video game producers (professional and amateur) can get an idea if it is worth buying or downloading."

Very nice! The content's a bit squashed (I'd look into making this a fluid layout, were I you, but then I'm not, eh?), but otherwise I like the overall style. Content is definitely your priority (or so it seems), and that works for me.

On the design part, I'd look for some sort of pattern for the header's background; you know, on the left and right of the main area there are two lines shooting out. I'd change those to some sort of interesting pattern instead of just plain colors.

The "Your Source For Video Game Software" banner is bland and takes too much space for no reason; either spruce it up for some additional eye candy, or put something meaningful in there.

You shouldn't use #000 for black; make it a bit lighter. It just contrasts too much with the rest. Other than that, there are some tiny visuals, but it's fine overall: you have the foundation for a good, solid site.

I like the overall design/layout. I don't have a good reason for that, but it's just nice.

There is one problem with your images. The action maker enterprise image and the "Your source for video game software". You saved them as .jpg! It makes the quality of the images so bad. It is also a big file, bigger then .gif or .png. Save them as .png or as gif but don't use .jpg's anymore.

You could also use some animations for your website. It will make the information flashy. Make the content slide around in a bar or use .gif animations. I will give an example. This is the fast one I could think of it's dutch but that doesn't matter. http://www.gamekings.tv/ if you look at the video's you can switch and slide them with your mouse. That makes the website interactive and it's fun and usefull. It's just an fast example.

As for the navigation bar, if I were you, you should use capital letters. It just makes it look better.

You should keep your website original. Keep that in mind.

I know, but we are messing with flash, DHTML, and Java to get a small slide show going for new content (e.g. software). Plus we are going to convert the XHTML document to work with Dreamweaver or Web Professional 7. Doing this because the site will be quite large so we need an easy fast way to edit all pages. We are leaning toward Dreamweaver as it can update "links" (of the same) on multiple pages.

Nice to here some design advice, but what about the overall idea for the purpose of the site? The forum won't offer any support for any software, but we will link to sites that do).
