Ven's MegaCon Tour '08 (warning: over 60 photos)

WARNING: NSF56K!!!!

I went to MegaCon in Orlando today. I've been to ComiCon in San Diego many times, so I knew already that MegaCon wasn't going to be huge, but it was pretty cool, and I saw a few cool things. (Don't bother looking, I didn't post any pictures of myself .) No, I didn't dress up as anyone/thing, but I did get myself a few things. A Mario T-Shirt, a 1-Up Mushroom plushie, a few amateur comic books. You know the drill.

Anyway here're my photos. Please note that a.) I am a terrible photographer, and b.) my camera sucks BALLS. It's like 4 years old and is a POS 4 mega pixel $150 Kodak (well, it cost $150 back in the day). Do the math.

There was a lot of cosplayers, and I was impressed with some, and just so amused by others, that I had to snap off photos of them like crazy. These people would sometimes REALLY get into character. Like ... Annoyingly o_o;;

Not listed here are some costumes I saw, and liked, but I couldn't get a decent picture of:
~ Travis Touchdown (I swear -- it was DEAD. ON. He had the lightsaber thingy too, the BloodBerry.)
~ A Female Yautja (Yey, it was really sweet, I tried so hard to get a pic but all that came out was a blurry mess D:)
~ A gigantic Kirby, that was basically just a sphere constructed of PVC pipes, then covered in a pink cloth, with his face painted on ... It was like 5' in diameter o_o
~ A Vash the Stampede that was just SO bad I wanted to capture it (obese, pimply, pale guy, with a brown trenchcoat painted red ... Oh geez what a sight)
~ This chick that was like ... JEBUSly hot, I had no idea what she was dressed as, but DAMN. There was VERY little costume :thumb:
~ The entire team of Phoenix Wright, plus Apollo Justice. They carried around a huge "OBJECTION!" sign with them and played the courtroom theme wherever they went XD. They always had a crowd around them so I couldn't stop 'em for a pic.
~ There were a LOT of Akatsuki members (from Naruto). Jebus, so fucking many. I didn't snap any photos because there were, like, a million of them. I also didn't get a lot of anime characters--they were generally the poorest, fattest, and shittiest-dressed XD

A whole bunch of cosplayers all lined up at the General Costume Awards.

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20001.jpg[/img]
Velvet, from Odin Sphere. I was super impressed by the costume, and the pose. Her psypher was right-on, too.

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20002.jpg[/img]
Mario, Peach, and cardboard-box Samus XD

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20003.jpg[/img]
A Spartan (he didn't say which, I assume Leonidas), and Gorgo (Leonidas's wife).

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20012.jpg[/img]
I'm Doctor Rockso! The Rock n' Roll Clown! I do COCAINE!

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20016.jpg[/img]
The Ghostbusters!!! I tell you, these guys had the best fucking costumes. Their photon packs lit up with a hundred LED's and looked just from the movie. They also made a "charging up" noise, and lit up at the ends of the gun-part. And, get this: They drove in in the Ecto-1!!! It was an old station wagon that had been COMPLETELY overhauled to look like the first Ghostbusters wagon!! Fucking kickass.

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20017.jpg[/img]
This really must've cost a lot of money.

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20018.jpg[/img]
Really ... A lot of money.

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20019.jpg[/img]
This Twi'lek was fairly impressive. I kept bumping into her throughout the day.

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20004.jpg[/img]
An Imperial Guard! Run's!

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20005.jpg[/img]
That Jawa's about to get raped D:

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20013.jpg[/img]
"Fuck, where'd we park the Death Star?" :<

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20014.jpg[/img]
The Darth Vader was pretty sweet, too.

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20015.jpg[/img]
Recognize this guy? It's a Gemorian, one of Jabba's guards. Pretty impressive! Even the feet! That shit musta been sweaty x_x
* Thanks khmp, for reminding me D:

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20020.jpg[/img]
General Grievus! That's not an easy char to pull off, either.

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20022.jpg[/img]
I bumped into the Twi'lek again XD

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20023.jpg[/img]
What hams :)

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20021.jpg[/img]
Poison Ivy x Harle ... Something naughty is afoot.

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20068.jpg[/img]
I thought this guy looked like a pretty badass jedi. Much better than the umpteen million other ones that're just skinny white boys.

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20069.jpg[/img]
Recognize him?? It's QUAIL MAN!!! From Doug!!! I nearly plotz'd when I saw him.

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20047.jpg[/img]
Quail Man ended up winning Most Original XD

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20075.jpg[/img]
Pyramid Heads in love <3. Later, they started an extremely long cosplay conga-line. It was weird o_O

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20033.jpg[/img]
Daxter XD

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20070.jpg[/img]
This chick (the Night Elf) won Best Costume. I can't blame the judges. These pics do her no justice--it was an EXCELLENT costume. She said it took her 6 months, but she made it by hand. That's a fangirl o_o;;;

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20074.jpg[/img]
Accompanied by another Night Elf. Also a very sweet costume. It won Best Video Game Cosplay or something, I think.

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20008.jpg[/img]
More Night Elf ...

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20025.jpg[/img]
Anyone need some gigantic Weighted Companion Cubes?

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20032.jpg[/img]
Somewhere in this picture is a floating Weighted Companion Cube ...

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20029.jpg[/img]
I got bored in line, held the camera over my head, and started snapping pics.

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20030.jpg[/img]
Moar

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20031.jpg[/img]
Moar! Sorry I didn't take any of the showroom floor, where all the merchandise/artists were. I forgot ;_;

The below're from the Costume Awards. They're all shitty because I was in the fuckin' wrong side of the auditorium. They did everything off to the left and I had sat off to the right. Also, my camera has the shittiest zoom feature ... Ever. Fuck. Anyway, try to make them out.

http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20035.jpg[/img] http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20036.jpg[/img] http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20037.jpg[/img] http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20040.jpg[/img] http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20041.jpg[/img] http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20042.jpg[/img] http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20043.jpg[/img] http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20044.jpg[/img] http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20045.jpg[/img] http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20048.jpg[/img] http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20049.jpg[/img] http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20050.jpg[/img] http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20051.jpg[/img] http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20053.jpg[/img] http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20054.jpg[/img] http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20055.jpg[/img] http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20056.jpg[/img] http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20059.jpg[/img] http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20060.jpg[/img] http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20062.jpg[/img] http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20063.jpg[/img] http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20064.jpg[/img] http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20065.jpg[/img] http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20066.jpg[/img] http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20067.jpg[/img]

The Darth Vader you see? It won Best Star Wars. Why? It was made entirely of Lego Blocks o_o

Excuse the shitty pics ... I was in the back of the room ;_;
http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20009.jpg[/img]
http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20011.jpg[/img]

He's much smaller than he looks on the show. He's EXTREMELY well-spoken, and really laid back. He kept taking question after question and ended up delaying every other show in that room for 45 minutes XD.

He slipped a few nuggets of info: He WILL be back in the next season. He mentioned that we should take a look at the end of the last ep of Season 2: Was he wearing a bulletproof vest? Could they have preconceived an attack? Could they have staged the whole shebang? Or, consider the possibility that Adam's blood is still coarsing through his veins ...

He also mentioned that Heroes: Origins WILL be released, probably simultaneously/right after the start of Season 3.

Again, excuse the shitty pics ... I was in the back of the room ;_; ... Again.
http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20026.jpg[/img]
http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20027.jpg[/img]
http://www.pixelcocktail.com/hosted_ite ... %20028.jpg[/img]

They must put a lot of makeup on her on the show to make her features look more severe, because in person, she looks much softer, much paler. She's actually fucking gorgeous in person, and is really rather timid and bashful. She mentioned that she's a polar opposite to Lois in the show, and that working with the guy who plays Lex Luthor is "an ADD experience". She mentioned that he farts often in the middle of takes, makes jokes to break cues, and generally plays pranks on everyone.

I know the show has been sucking, but I still watch it XD

That's it for now. Enjoy the gallery ;)

Oh, and to make it more public and shit: Do you ever cosplay? Got pix?

They're really a lot of fun, I love conventions. But of course, I'm a total fucking dweeb. I swear, I knew who everyone was who was dressing up -- Even the anime chars.

Damn though like 20 people touched and/or grabbed my ass today, in crowds. One dude brushed past me and as he did, he was able to grab both cheeks o_o;;;. But ah well, you get used to the random gropings in conventions. Girls--especially non-fatty ones--are few and far between XD

Uh if I may Venetia. The green guy is clearly a Gemorian not a Baantha. *Pokes eyeglasses back up on face* The Baantha is the animal that jawas ride in Mos Eisley. The ones that look like Giraffe's. Blaven googenheim with the misnomers nice lady.

There are some excellent Indiana Joneses in there... And I get the feeling that you weren't the only one to get groped for some reason when I look at the princess Leia cosplayer. For her sake, I hope she was there with defensive friends!

Anyway, I'd normally avoid these things like the plague, but it was neat seeing pictures of one. Thanks Ven. :)
It seems like the star wars costumes looked the best out of all of them for some reason though.

Dude, this is a frickin' dork fest.

I've never been to a con before, but heck, I totally want to go to one, especially ComicCon.

The cardboard box Samus is win, in my opinion, and so was the guy who dressed as Quail Man.

Cute, to bad its not any things like these in Norway :/, Maay-aybe, I should move to the US/UK, WEhen I get 18?, Well, 2 years from now..Got time to think about.

By the way, Its not 2 Night elves, the Blue were Night elf, the other one were an Elf, or a Blood elf, or whatever, but its not a Night elf, (and no its not from WoW, I'm playing Warcraft III)

$t3v0

Awesome Bro

Wait wat. Never move from Norway! I love your country man, you've got it made there (Saying that, I did only go to Oslo and I watched that panoramic movie they show in the Viking Museum. The rest of Norway seemed a little old fashioned and boring).

The convention actually looks like a lot of fun. I'd be a bit embarrassed being there, but I'm a true geek on the inside :]

JACK FUCKING SKELLINGTON.

That was my initial response when I started looking at pictures. The costume was perfect, man. I wonder where he got the helmet?

Leonidas is impressive, too, as with Grevious, the pyramid heads, the Jedi who I'd bet actually knows how to fight outside of "swing sword, move fist, make blood come out," the (REAL FUCKING) Ghostbusters, the legal troupe, etc.

If I were actually to list out everything that I found impressive here, I'd bust the word count into tiny smithereens. I take this as a sign from Allah, Buddha, and Jesus working in tandem to tell me I need to get a jumpstart on my nerdy life and go to some cons. Lessee, what's a good costume...

Brilliant. Now, if only I could find some sort of professional-looking material to make the helmet with. :\

I really can't get over those Pyramid Heads. That has to be the cutest thing in the entire catalogue of photos.

Very nice, Ven-dude. I'm not sure what the con scene is like in Canada (I do know, though, that one is held every summer in the place I spend about a quarter of my time,) but I hope it's as cool as that. I'm gonna start planning my costumes right now! >: D

(Lessee, Masked Boy, Akutare... Robotman?)

I'd love to go to a convention, Comicon is my new target since they cancelled E3. (Yeah I know it's not a convention but it's generally the same people going to it)

Hmm... Those pics are really cool, Ven.

The Ghostbusters and the night elf were probably the most awesome costumes, at least in my opinion.

Were you dressed up?

I always get them mixed up actually x_x. I used to be a semi-big Star Wars freak when I was a kid, but I'm so bad with names of shit. I still like Star Wars, but damn ... Anakin really kinda pissed me off.

Yeah Leia actually walked around in an Obi Wan-style robe and was surrounded by a team at all times. She looks really skinny in those pictures but she was pretty good-looking. I also saw another Leia but it was Death Star Leia and she was really fat 9_9;;

And yeah, the Star Wars people seemed to spend the most. But oh! I forgot about this one, there was a Guild Wars cosplayer that looked fucking AMAZING. She could have been a main contender for the Night Elf.

TREG":1igo30ju said:
Did you see a rather handsome Tuxedo Mask because that was my friend Mark.
I did not ... I went to the Anime Cosplayers Awards, but I was seated in the last row so I couldn't see shit, and was surrounded by 15-year-old otaku freaks that were jumping around and being generally ridiculously annoying, so I had to bolt outta there after the Childrens' nominations. (There was a little girl dressed up like Nel from Bleach that was ADORABLE though).

ComiCon is very like this, except WAY WAY WAY WAY bigger, with theatres and theatres devoted to full casts of TV shows, or to showing newly dropped anime, or whatever. Also at ComiCon there's a lot more videogame-related stuff. At MegaCon there wasn't too much videogame-related crap. The smaller conventions are better for a.) meeting random celebrities, b.) actually GETTING IN to see shows, and c.) if you're a newb at the comic book industry but you want to get your work out without spending a ton of dough. There were a lot of amateur artist booths. Most of them, I could easily draw circles around, but some of them were fucking kick ass. Oh, and a few figureheads from Marvel were touring around so maybe someone got a lucky break?

I don't actually play WoW or Warcraft, but my husband does, so I only know what I've overheard from him. But yeah, that probably is a Blood Elf, I didn't even think about that ^_~

There were a lot of regular people there, like me, just wandering around, buying a few things, laughing at cosplayers. You can find some things there you can't find elsewhere, or that're hard to find on the internet, for cheap.

The Jack Skellington was amazing. His wife was the ragdoll girl (I can't remember the name ... Sally?). I don't know how he did it, he was walking around on stilts the whole con. One of the Indiana Jones guys won Best Movie Cosplay, but I think Jack deserved it more. But to be fair, the Indiana Jones guy had a whip made by the man who made the real whip that Harrison Ford used in the movie, and he had the jacket made by the company who made Ford's, and his middle name was Indiana XD

Man I can't believe how much these guys pissed all over E3. That was some shit right there, so fuckin' amazing. Now it's developers-only. Bullshit.

But yeah ComiCon has a LOT of videogame related stuff, especially RPG's and Action/Adventure Games stuff. At the one I went to in 2003, there was this gigantic StarCraft tournament and the winner got like $10K.

No, I can't do that stuff. It's too embarrassing XD. My best friend in Cali does that shit all the time, though. She makes her own costumes, and is pretty damn hot, so she fills them out well. <3

The only thing I'd ever dress up as is probably Lara Croft, since it'd be pretty easy to find a teal swimsuit, khaki shorts, a toy gun & holster, and dye my hair brown/braid it. I'd need one hell of a tan though XD

So THAT'S what happened! Damn, that was one of the places were I really REALLY wanted to go. Does anyone know why they closed it to the professionals? That truly is bullshit.

Sounds cool, especially since you'd get the chance to meet with some well-known actors and artitists.

Regardless, you would be prey... xD

E3 was becoming too much of a show with hot girls and free stuff, even though it's purpose was game coverage, so to cut costs it became a tiny developers only thing.

So now Comicon is my new goal!

Apparently E for All is attempting to become the new E3, but it still has a long way to go -- the last E for All had only a handful of game demos, the premises were nearly deserted, and there weren't enough attractions to fill the three-day agenda, which was pretty bad for the people who had booked accomodations and tickets for the entire time.

From what I hear, at least. : P

Eugh, numbers for letters. I think the last thing E for All needs is a name that makes them sound like stodgy old business execs trying to connect with my demographic. I find that sort of thing offensive to me and my generation -- it's even worse if my generation (being the putty that we are in the hands of the "it"-man of your choice) falls for it. "E for All" is a fine name as far as I'm concerned; it sounds inclusive, fun, and even a little dignified. : P

I am but as old as the wind and the waves, child. I have watched as the great fall and empires return to dust, always laughing at the folly of Man...

Seriously, though, take an educated guess rather than asking rude questions. Which demographic are advertisers trying to appeal to most nowadays...?

Let's keep the discussion to Ven's photologue now, 'kay? This is hardly on-topic.
