Welcome, this is the world of Vennis. A magical place filled with magic and monsters. In this world there's a legend about Three Angels, Freya, Rubicus and Amaya.

"A long time ago, the monsters waged a war against the people. The monsters were strong but the people did not give in. They prayed for help day after day. The 40th day a miracle happen. Three angels came down from the heavens and slayed the leader of the monsters, the Fallen Angel of Sin. They only required the life of a maiden of pure heart."

Now every 40 years the people of Vennis sacrifice a maiden of pure heart so the evil would remain sealed.

This year that maiden was a woman by the name of Maria Escalot, the lover of the famous poet Rikum.
Our story begins with Kanda and Sarah, the steph-brother and steph-sister of Rikum, who've moved in with him since they've lost their home and parents in a fire. It's been a while since Maria was sacrifised but Rikum still griefs over her death.

Though normally I would lock a prematurely posted topic, since you claimed it to be an "accident"(I don't believe it, but w/e), I will allow you that hour to fix it. :3

Also this project seems to have nothing at all to do with Venetia. I am displeased.

Wouldn't it say that you edited your post at the bottom of your post if you typed that you accidentally pushed post? Suspicious...

Luminier I understand, even though he didn't believe it was an accident he's still a mod and I'm glad he didn't simply close this.

KROP made a fool out of himself

And Regi corrected him.

I've posted a topic without finishing a finishing it first too ...

This looks like fun. I'll try it out. tomorrow. I look forward too it.

Your mapping is kinda bland :/

I'm kind of new to VX's style of mapping so yes, my mapping isn't top quality. When I get more experience in using VX I'll be sure to update the maps to a finer condition.

Seems like a decent project. Here's some C&C (only based on the thread, though).

Your mapping is all right, but that's already been said.
Story and characters seems to be well thought out. However, you're only providing the backstory, could you give a little more information about what happens during the game? What's Rikum's goal, what's the conflict, etc. Your spelling and grammar needs a little work, which may be a turn-off for some people, but it's better than many games around here.

All in all, you could go far with this. Good luck on the project.

Here are the thoughts that managed to stay in my head until the end of the demo:
-The plot was predictable and cliche, shockingly so, in fact.
-I'm just as big as the boulder, yet the switch only turns on when the boulder is on it. Lazy eventng, in my opinion.
-I never know when a boss battle is supposed to happen, so I went through the entire demo without sleeping and almost died.
-Spelling and grammar: not so good, but I've seen worse.
-Dialouge was poorly worded. "Die, Angel of Sin!" Angel of Sin: "No! You die! Insert-random-spell-of-doom-name-here!" The worst of it was that I was seeing different people say practically the same thing.
-The story was rushed. A lot. "Oh no our brother is sad... now lets go into super dangerous dungeon of doom just to pick a flower and cheer him up!"
-I hope those faces are temporary. Seriously, the characters look nothing like them.
-I've always personally disliked the sideview battle system, as the enemies are always 10 times bigger than the player, even though they're supposed to be the same size.
-I won a boss battle, and as reward I get the Game Over graphic. Yay.

putting my thoughts into a spoiler, for those of you who hven't played it yet.
hmmm... the introduction seems a little weird. different style then what i'm used to, which is not immediately a bad thing.

when Kanda wakes up, he seem to be standing on top of your bed : / Not sure if you can fix this with VX, as I have XP, but thought I'd mention it.

you can read the books on the bookshelf on the main floor without facing them...

when you exit the town, you can see the top of Kanda's hair through the wall

heehee. rikum is emo...

i could only guess, but in the forest, the first slime battle was scripted? as was the second? in the very narrow sections? its to obvious. especial when someone says "i hope we don't run into too much trouble."
i'm predicting evil baddie showing up pretty soon...

hmm... i just had a battle that wasn't in the narrow path. maybe i was wrong about the first two. still predicting evil though.

the potion in the treasure chest was a bit redundant, seeing as i already have next to infinite heals from sarah and her never-ending amount of heals, and instant kill fire. as far as i can see, Kanda is a meat sheild.

ooh, look. an ogre. who happens to be right next to thing we need. delightful. what? he's going to interfere?  oh the plot twists!
what! NO! do not go towards gork! i prefer my life to flowers!
Haha. Gork imerged.
why does "Body smash" show a ring of magic?

now gork's dead, we head back. (spidey senses, tingling...)

okay, after my 5 slime battle, I started to begin fleeing.

okay. blazing sakura sucks. ass. it deals less overall damage then kanda's normal atack, AND costs 8 "M"? no thank you. sarah can deal twice the damage for half the "M".

what? the entire village is dead? never saw THAT one coming. (cougholdesttrickinthebookcough)

sorry, but leave, come back, OH NOEZ THEY B DEDZ! is kind of overused. (like i'm one to talk...)

hmm...

okay. at this point, after looking around for about 5 minutes, i saved, and quit. due partialy to the fact that i was lost, and also to the fact that my computer was causing extreme lag.

all in all, i'd say that this gane was average. nothing special, just your run of the mill RPG. predictable, somewhat flawed battle system, graphical errors, etc. still, it was a little fun.

i give you 5/10.

Okay, I'm currently downloading, so I should give a quick review soon. By the way, I think you should post a few more screenshots. Although the minimum is two, I think, in order to have a really good view of what the game is like, you should have at least five, each of different parts of the game.
Okay, just finished the game. Well, the first thing I saw was the default title screen open. Was a little bit of a turn off, but I figured you just hadn't gotten around to changing it yet.

As the characters started talking, I noticed the facesets looked almost nothing like the characters, which was a little annoying, because it was difficult to tell who was who.

Your indoor and town mapping is pretty decent, I guess. Average would be a good way to say it. There were also a few grammatical errors here and there, nothing big.

Walking around town, I really liked the flickering lights you had in the magic shop. I thought that was kind of a neat effect.

So anyway, I talked to the girl's brother, and then it sends me to go looking for a flower in the middle of a dangerous forest? What?! You're saying that they're risking their lives just to find a white botanical flower (or whatever it was) when there were plenty of other flowers around? Not good.

Anyway, I went to the forest looking for this flower. And I noticed that your forest mapping...sucks. It's basically narrow passage, then giant square, then narrow passage, then giant square, etc. Also, as soon as I walked into the forest, when Sarah said "I hope we don't run into too much trouble"-dead give away that there would be some sort of boss battle at the end.

The forest mapping leaves a lot to be desired, actually. Anyway, walking through the forest, I encountered some battles-all with two slimes. They were okay at first, but then they grew very tedious, having to fight the same thing OVER AND OVER again. ALL with TWO SLIMES. Gah!! So I just started running from all the battles after that.

Then I got to the puzzle and wondered why the heck I had to push a boulder on a switch to open a gate in a forest?? I mean, it was an extremely easy puzzle, not really one at all. I could tell you just wanted a puzzle for the heck of it. Puzzles are nice, but not if they don't make any sense and are just there for the heck of it!

Then we get to the ogre part. Ugh. Why are we risking our lives just so an ogre doesn't crush a flower? I mean, we've already fought countless monsters, and now we're killing an ogre for a flower?!?! But I killed it anyways. Another typical battle. And then I found out I had to walk all the way OUT of the forest as well! I ran away from every battle on the way out.

And of course the village was attacked while you were gone. Of course. And then, after looking high and low for this guy's brother, he summons the Angel of Sin just to bring back a girl named Maria (Maria...where have I heard someone in love with a girl named Maria?) and turns into the Angel of Sin...and then Game Over. What? Game over? Also, when you fight your brother, they're the same height outside of battle, but in battle, he's at least five times your height! Huh?!

Anyway...sorry if I was a little harsh there. It's just...if you're going to make a game, make it enjoyable, at least! It was fun at first, but grew very tedious and annoying. Although you did have some nice animations at the end there, I'll give it that.

PROS:
-Few grammar mistakes
-Some nice lighting effects
-Town and indoor mapping is decent
-Civilian dialogue is okay

CONS:
-Facesets don't match characters
-Plots are way too predictable
-Risking lives and killing for a flower?!?!
-Forest mapping is horrible
-Battles are tedious and annoying
-Way too easy (potions and healing spells made it impossible to die...until the end)

Umm...If I had to give it a score, I'd give it four out of ten. I mean, it's a good effort, but...you can only fight so many slimes, ya know?

Well I've read your reviews and now I know what I'll be improving.

About Blazing Sakura:
I accidently messed up the attack force, sorry bout that!

About battlers being bigger, never played FF6? Kefka's grahic is freakin huge while char graphic is as small as the others. But it's just to give a more detailed view about how he looks like.

Face sets, title graphic and gameover graphic still have to be made, I can sprite a bit but I really cant do the rest.
Will probably open a reqruitment thread.

I'll also make some more enemies for in the forest and make the puzzle a bit better overall.

I guess the flower thing is rather silly..More like someone ten years old would do..
Have to find a better way..

So overall I'll try my best to make the game more enjoyable and try to flesh out the story a bit better.
Time to get to work!

The fact that it was done in another game doesn't mean it was okay to do.

I think you're missing the point entirely. There were too MANY battles and it grew tedious to go through that.
And again, why the heck did this end with us dying?!

I dont see a problem with it at all, it seems perfectly fine. In fact, Mirku is right; it shows more detail in the enemies design. The only game I can think of off the top of my head that had pretty good ratios was Chrono Trigger, and that was simply because each battle let you see the enemies before hand.

Well I like the battlers being bigger style, so I'm keeping it.

And yes, I've already implanted that you're transferred after the fight with Gork.
And if you don't like to battle, how will the characters ever level up?

The dying isn't real ofcourse, something happens that saves the two in the real game, it's a demo for a reason.

I'm not saying that I don't like to battle. I'm saying that I just kept fighting the same two slimes. Over and over. There were too many and they were too easy. I personally like battles that do more to challenge the player, rather than enemies being there just for the purpose of grinding.

Wel I'm trying to think out interesting battle situations for future boss battles, but the normal battles in the start are just common battles, nothing special. I like games that begin easy and grow more difficult as you progress.
