Storyline:
A girl named Iris Fong follows in the footsteps of her late brother and father- both famous PLA PICS pilots - and enrolls into an elite academy training only the very best… Thus starts her first day in the academy…

World:
The year is 2029 and information systems have evolved to the point that intelligence in warfare between two modern armies is rendered “equal” for both sides.

To offset the problems posed by “complete information”, armies have developed Powered Infantry Combat suits (PICS), turning battles into high-speed bouts of decision-making and reflexes – instead of the cumbersome hierarchical way it was waged before.

As the third decade of the 21st century approaches, the world sees the United States fall to second place economically and militarily as China secures the lead. It’s here that the Red Opera begins…

Director’s notes:
- Pastel Blue is on hold –it’s been on a long break and so is Absinthe. But Pastel Blue will be finished before Absinthe. Don’t ask me why I finished this game instead; I don’t know myself why I had the drive for it. Either way, I’m focused on Red Opera, so expect more updates for this game.

- Yes PICS are just suits, they’re not giant robots, they’re bigger than humans just by a bit.

Beta Releases: One of the first battle testers I released to a few people. It's a battle with the first boss. If you want to check out some of the game's fighting mechanics and aesthetics, then try this out. In the game it is possible to level up and get other skills before this fight... so consider this a worst case scenario.

Glossary:
PLA – People’s Liberation Army (of China)
PICS - Powered Infantry Combat Suits.

Progress: 80% finished. Facesets need putting on, and the battle system is undergoing further enhancement wherever needed.

Recruitments: Looking for an artist to do facesets for a number of characters. Not really important since i'm buying a scanner soon, but it would help to release the game earlier.

The opera begins, 3rd Quarter 2007.

lol alright, wasn't expecting such a quick reaction.

Anyway if you can't beat that boss, don't feel bad, it's HP has been toned down in the actual game and it really is damn near impossible to beat (In this test version especially, well I've beaten it, but I designed it after all...). Also don't waste AP and EP fighting the random battles, save everything for the boss. ;)

Aye, they are. I was actually trying to get battlefield 2142 sound effects but couldn't. :( they still sound well though

EDIT: On a side note, it helps not to fight the boss at a 5-8 cycle as it gains increased speed and evasion during then. You might be able to get to 75%.
 
Looks very good except for the font. I like the story and premise and stuff. I'd try it out but I have too much homework and I probably shouldn't even be posting this...

UPDATE: added another demo (final one before the actual release)

It showcases the game's dialogue, deadly and realistic A.I. and two of the many "professional" villains that you'll encounter throughout the game.

Again don't worry if you can't beat the boss, this is an old battle test and has been updated in more recent versions.

Still it shows you the tragedy of war and all that ;_;
 
hmmm sounds interesting, though I may want to wait for the actual release :)

Only things I may add from the info on your topic:
-2029 sounds too early IMO for the events you described, both in politics and technology, I would go with at least 2045 or something from 2100 and ahead...
-PICS sound a bit funny imo, ICS or IPCS sounds slightly better (though I am picky on those things, still trying to find a decent one for the machines in my game).

All in all, the concept of humanoid armors rather than giant robots fits nicely for the not so giant robot graphics from Knight Blade and the theme is nice :) Good luck with the project ;)

You're right, the game was initially set to be held in 2050 something, but I chose 2029 instead, the game does cover some issues in archives/ books within it covering: The failure of American foreign policy in Iraq, the rapid growth of China and the gender disparity, Oil and the Middle East as well as Shinzo Abe.

So yes, the game does try to make it look realistic, besides who really knows what the future holds? Not us.

Technologically, one of the main themes covered by the game is that "complete information" isn't as cracked up as it is known as. In fact one of the game's main characters is pissed off at the idea.

I've taken Moore's law and technological singularity into account so don't worry :yes:

(all this takes a backseat to the action and drama of course)
 
Nice, your response was better than I anticipated, this gets me even more interested :)

If you used a sprite only system (with a sideview battle that is) I could help you on making suit variations... I could actually draw battlers as you have too, but my drawing style is different and it takes a hell lot of time. Still if you need some sprites for machines, just pm me and I may help ;)

As for the record files regarding political events, discs or even internet sites could be nice (think of Front Mission fictional internet here :P).

Yes, I was thinking of putting in a fictional internet system, easily made through photoshop anyway. I'm still thinking about it. Anyway yes, thanks for the suggestions.
 
Like in Front Mission III? That would be pretty awesome if you ask me. I'm pretty sure that would add to the game play and give the player a way to waste time. Now, I want to do it :(

You're gonna like this game even more -,- it has that whole Zionist thing about it, and there are some Israeli main characters lol.
