I'm not quite sure if I'm happy or sad about this.
I was introduced to Survive about 8 months ago now. I found it briefly mentioned while doing an unrelated google search. As chatgoers may know, I am a sucker for the whole 'trapped on a desert island, forced to teamwork' scenario.
I downloaded it on a whim and liked it. A lot. Chatgoers may remember being subjected to my squeals of 'Dear god this is so COOL!'.
Survive is a quite slow-moving series based heavily around how its characters interact. Despite this, it remains almost constantly interesting save for a few episodes in the middle of the series in a portion which even I'll admit drew on far too long. The characters are its strong point, making a story which has been done a million times before new and interesting.
Howard is just awesome.
Watching the characters round off each other's corners and learn to depend upon each other (and, in Howard's case, learn to be depended upon) was one of the best experiences I've ever had watching anime.
Hell, even just the OPENING can move me to tears.
So, fanwumping aside, it's been licenced. Well, in portugese.
Until now, it's not been too well known. Mention it even in /a/ on 4chan and very few people know of it. Until now, I've hoped it could become a little more widely known. More fanart, more fanfiction. Being able to have discussions about it with people. Yadda yadda.
I'm not a Sub > Dub type person as a rule. I do love my language and I like to hear it spoken. Unless a dub has recieved a total butchering I will favour it because I don't really enjoy having to read the subtitles. LOL IM NOT A TRU ANIMU FAN I know.
That said, I've never really loved a series so much and only seen it in subs. I'm a little worried that if it gets translated to english then the characters I love will be gone. I'm not sure if they'll be the same without the voices they had before. I'm not SO worried about censorship ala One Piece since Survive has very little blood and there is no way they can possibly edit out spears, arrows, knifes, laserguns etc. and keep a series there.
Actually, typing all that made me realize that all of those worries were dumb anyway. Even if they weren't, it's only in portugeuse for now.
I'm happy again.
