[TUT]Pet System

I like to make stuff with RPG Maker so I decided to create a pet system.

Its perfect if your game's character is a loner ;)

Step 1

Creating the Common events and switches.

Ok so you will have to create 1 global switch and 1 common event for each pet.
For example, if you have a pet scorpion create a switch named HavePetScorp and 1 common event named PetScorp Lifespawn.
New: Make 1 Switch named HavePet

Step 2

Mapping

This doesn't require much work, just make a room with cages and place your pet's character graphics as events wandering around randomly in their cages, something like this:

Step 3

Events

Create the common event basing yourself on this screenshot

For the shoper create the first event (at the shop building) like this:

Then the shoper event at the cages room:

Thats it, I also recommend using the catterpilar system if your game has 1 character only, so your pet following it should look cool

I'd just like to thanks Calibre for helping me out with the timers ^_^

The pet having a limited lifespawn is your choice. The timer counts down the remaining lifespawn of the pet. 15 minutes was just to make the tutorial. you can change it whenever you want.

An easier way is to put a few pets in the database, in the tab where arshes and that stuff are, and than with an event to switch party members, and than just switch someone with the pet...

(Screens will come later.)

Well, images are better than 1000 words they say...

I think the question is not how to put it in he party but how to make it follow you. As I have a pet I would like to follow me, this tut is very helpful. I think Mr.Smith's idea will work along side Pete's if you want the pet to fight, but some games do not allow pets to fight, so you wouldn't want the pet in the party in those cases.

:D Yesh You Are Right Thats The Way I Used To Do It xD

Very nice! I have my own version of a Pet System but it's not a fighter...

It's very basic, limited to one map, and it only follows you (no script but it kinda sucks...), has a emotion thingy where doing commands ups the level of friendship or whatever, an option for giving food (if you to buy it), and a thing where it picks up an item every 100 steps or something depending on your pet's level.

Yeah. :P
