Trends/games growing up

Anyone remember wacky trends/games from when they were growing up? Trends might be a bad word for it but I don't know what else to call it. Just stuff people use to do but don't anymore. It could be something innocent from when you were a kid or something stupid as a teen.

Like I remember girls used to wear these different colored gel bracelets and if a guy broke one they had to do certain things together depending on the color. All I remember was the black ones were bad (*gasp* sex!). Probably why everyone in my hometown has an std and all my friends from high school are/were pregnant now.

As kids we used to hold our breath when driving past a graveyard so you wouldn't get possessed.

Wearing an earring on one side meant you were gay. (left or right I don't remember) I think it was an 80's thing.
I'm tempted to bring up drinking games but that's better for another topic.

Running a yellow light got you sex points. Yeah, I don't know how that works but you had to touch the dash board and then the ceiling everytime.

I didn't have cable or internet growing up so I have no idea when or where this stuff started or who made it up. But I'm from a small town so I'm curious what things were like else where. Its just stupid stuff you and look back and laugh about.

WTF??!?!?!?!

When I was a kid, all we had was Punch Buggy and Chinese Jump Rope!

Jesus christ if I ever have a kid they're getting homeschooled!! JESUS!!!

i think i have possibly the worst one ever.

me and 2 friends..
we roleplayed.
in school.
all day.

from 6th grade to 8th grade.

:l

I'm pretty sure they're still around. Just replace jump-rope with Pokemon and friendship bracelets with Webkinz.

In fact, I know my younger sister does a lot of the same stuff, so it's not like it's gone anywhere.

Also, I don't remember anything about colored bracelets and sex. I do know there's friendship bracelets and beads and charms and stuff kids would get into. My friend still holds his breath sometimes when driving past a graveyard, and we kiss the ceiling of his car when passing yellow lights.

You've come to the right place, then.

Wearing an earring on one side meant you were gay.
I remember this. I also remember when the big Pokemon craze started in about 1998. I don't really remember much from my childhood, so I can't think of anything else to add.

I remember when pokemon started. I never watched the show cause I only go 2 channels with an antenna. But everyone collected the cards and no one actually play the game.  Then digimon came out and I was obsessed to the point me and my friends made up our own monsters.

That was around the same time as tomogochis, those virtual pets on keychains. I never kept one alive longer then a week.

i remember the pokemon stuff too, but by that time i was either in highschool or nearly in high school so i never really "got" it. i always thought pikachu was cute and someone gave me one of those little pikachu tomagotchis, where you fill up his electric cheek pouches when you walk. i wore it around sometimes because it was essentially a pedometer and i liked to know how much i'd walked :)

when i was a kid, double dutch jump-roping was really "in", and while i couldn't jump to save my life, i was so good at turning them i went to like a little competition once. it was REALLY popular for a few years to make jumpropes out of multi-colored rubber bands.

i also did the friend bracelet thing, but always lost mine :/.

i never did any of the traditional stuff outside of Punch Buggy, I thought most of it was silly. what i used to do a lot were "note fights", where my friends and i would write notes back and forth where we did DBZ-style attacks against each other to knock off "HP". It was mostly focused on a little story we made up, but we adapted a lot of the moves and things were inspired by oldschool RPGs and anime. i did this when i was like 14-15. after that i started getting really into dating and all that so it all just stopped.

yeah i was cool

oh god dragonball z. there was a 3 year period where EVERYONE was fucking printing out pictures on the class computers, and then drawing vegeta/goku. everyone. of course i was the best at it. 8D

dragonball z owned my middleschool.

yeah it was popular late in my highschool years too,

my friends i hung out with are like 9082e182193982085023895 times nerdier than i am (they are CRAZY otaku freaks and memorized lord of the rings and play D&D all the time, seriously they used to embarass me sometimes but otherwise they were cool), and they were some of those kids printing out vegeta and piccolo all over the place.

i'll admit i watched the show and i actually sortof liked it though

not on their level but, you know, a little

mostly though i was just concerned with getting action and scrounging up money so i could eat lol

I saw Dragonball first, so of course when DBZ got popular I was like "where's all the penis and tit jokes?"

Also Pokemon was stupid popular at my school, as was Animorphs and Goosebumps. Then I transfered to another school where N64 was the shit and people played Goldeneye 007 instead of Final Fantasy 7.

I was kind of new to the world when Pokemon came out. (Late elementary school...) I remember those Lunchables that had the Pokemon on the back that you were supposed to cut out and collect. Anyway, what really made me think was the fact that no one has mentioned Furbies. I mean, those were a stupid fad on the same level as Tamagotchi, only worse. I borrowed my friends furbies and taught them all some bad words, just for fun. On a side note, I remember all of those ads on TV for the Game Boy Pocket, and how it was so cool that it came in bright colored cases. (The first game system I ever played was my dad's Game Boy, which he still owns in perfect condition. I really like my mom's original Atari, though)

lol! It was if you had your ear pierced on the right side you were gay, it's funny because this is the reason my mom had my ear pierced on my left side.

Me and my friends did something like this when we were kids except we used to print out a shitload of pictures and tape them onto our walls. We also used to make up our own dragon ball z scenes and act them out (one time i was pretending i was going super saying and actually passed out haha).

good times, good times.

I remember pokemon.  My dad would never let me watch the show.  I also remember the beanie baby craze.  I had a friend that was an avid collector (also where I got all my pokemon cards from).

In middle school we had "happy crack" (sugar and kool-aid mix) and got it banned from the school.  That was also about when I got into yu-gi-oh!.  Fun times, man, fun times...

OH YEAH BEANIE BABIES

jesus like every chick but me had like 14083098320283-510518-0589 million of them

i had a few, i thought they were cute, but NOT worth $20+ each!!!!

you trasnfered to my school??? our group was never into boring RPGs and shit. we loved nintendo.

we played super smash brothers (original) and mario tennis during study hall. we had a COOL TEACHER and we were the nerdy smart kids so we always of course had our homework done so het let us play on his N64 since we had nothing else to do during our free period.

i still hang out with some of those guys. during those days we formed quite a little posse.

also our pokemon craze hit early on. we were probably among the first in the MASSIVE WAVE that spread because i remember everyone was playing it before the card games were ever released. we had the old link cables and stuff and traded and competitive battled and everything back in elementary/middle school.we played ACTUAL POKEMON and it got HUGE and we did it HARDCORE and it was awesome.

also i have played mtg since like second grade. h*rdcore man

oh also, more in line with the kind of stuff in the first post

in elementary school the girls would always have FRUIT BY THE FOOT and they would wrap it around their fingers and make giant lollipops and lick them and suck them and we all thought it was stupid and the boys made sure to unroll ours and drape it across the table and put one end in our mouth and chew all the way across in races and we were intentionally loud to annoy the girls

looking back on it i wish we had been more in to sex back then because the girls sucking their fingers every day would have been hhhhotttttt
