This is my first game posted here. I tried to make all graphics custom. I'll leave it to the merciless people here in pd to tell if that worked out. If you find any errors in my language(I'm sure there are many of them, cause I'm not english), please tell me, and I'll fix them in the next version. This version is about one and a half hours long if you do all the sidequests.

History
Some eras ago, the world treathened to plunge into an eternal night. It was then that a band of heroes, known as the Vampa Guild, rose and put an end to it.
After that, the world became prosperous and peaceful. Mankind was had just began to exist, and the civilli, an ancient culture with somewhat high technology, ruled the world. This changed after a mad civilli became the chancellor of a civilli nation of that time. In the royal libraries he stole a book of forbidden knowledge. he used the book to seperate the civilli world into tiny fragments, which became completely isolated from each other. Without any trading routes, the civilli world came to it's end. This however, allowed mankind to become the dominent race. Now, he civilli are forgotten by many, although still, traces can be found from the old days.

Story
Not much of the actual story is revealed yet in this part. Cain, the protagonist, goes with his friends to a cave that opened up in a recent earthquake. When they're there, Cain and Oscar, one of his friends, go inside to explore. They find an empty chamber with a weird hole in the ground and a green rock in the middle. Oscar touches it, and activates a warping mechanism. Within a few seconds, Cain and Oscar are warped miles away to a place they don't know.

Soon they find out that they're not the only people with problems. This area is governed by General, a dictator, and his army of turban soldiers. These turban hats were originally worn by the army that protected the lands, but that was before General came. The few turban soldiers that defiled General formed the River Guards. After Oscar and Cain get caught in a conflict between these two, they are considered criminals by the turban army, and have no choice but to help he river guards...

Characters
Cain - A silent, dreamy boy. He loves taking naps. He's somewhat shy. He's really bad at navigating, and is bound to get lost in when he's in a place he doesn't know.
Oscar - A bit of a coward. He has a fobia for bugs. When he gets into contact with one, he'll panic and completely lost his senses. He's very embarrassed over this, though, and tries really hard to overcome his fear.
Ooze - A river guard recruit. He's a slime who made his home somewhere on a grassy field. He always knows how to keep his head cool when others lose it. He likes doing things slow.
Dirty - Also a river guard recruit. He is considered the most promosing one. He's a dirtpile, which aree creatures composed of soil and water. He's got a rude, and somewhat aggrasive attitude, mainly because dirtpiles are discriminated by humans and threated as low beeings.
Merlin - A merchant from Clearhill Village that finds Cain face down in a river.
Ray - One of Cain's friends. He finds his own life very dull, and dreams of going on adventure.
Jack - One of Cain's friends. He's like the total opposite of Cain. He's rude, quickly angered and impatient. Still, he really values his friends, and is not the type to let them down.
General - The dictator of the Crystal River Area. He resides in Hill Castle, from where he makes his plans to crush the river guard.

The races of the world

Humans - The current dominent race.
Mudmen - A race that mostly consists of dirtpiles. They are creatures that are made of soil.
Aquatics - Slimes and other wet creatures. It is said we all came forth from his primitive creatures.
Beasts - Bugs, animals, all sorts of feral beeings.
Golems - Creatures very relative to mudmen. They're all made of rock and stone.
Civilli - The dominent race before the humans came. The civilli became extinct some ages ago.
Artificials - Machines and other crafted things.
Palmies - A race only spoken of in myths. They appear as oval shaped creatures. Almost nothing is known about them.
Spirits - Creatures that died, but refused to leave this world.

EDIT: I added a history section.

High Hopes

Awesome Bro

Way too much empty, open space. I find that in situations(mapping) like this, it's good to take half-measures. That is, talk half of what you think you need to use. The graphics are too repetitive and simplistic, with the addition of headache-inducing in the third screenshot. Apply more detail on your graphics and storyline, and you'll have a good start.

Not bad not bad at all but the graphics are a bit ..... cartoony if thats what you were going for then congrats if not then there pretty good anyway so well done.

Your kinda right about the empty spaces and the repetitive graphics.
I'll start improving the maps and tilesets. And about the story... I added a history section. Is that what you mean?

Alrighty, I played 3 minutes of this to check it out. There's a lot of things I noticed.

Um, first the text that's like "##########Potions##########" is really ugly with all the #'s. Just use spaces to center the text like " Potions ". That looks a lot better.

The first house I walked in, I guess Cain's house nearly blinded me with the graphics. All of the graphics in the game are really saturated with the cartoony-look, but inside the house was terrible and I really had trouble seeing the tables and objects that weren't part of the floor and such. Also, I noticed this in your screens too, you really need a different tile for the wall and the top of the wall. Sometimes it's the top, but other times you have pictures hanging on the same tile and it just looks terrible. Sure, old rpg's used the same tile, but there were only like 3 or 4 tiles total in a cave or something, the floor, walls, and rocks maybe so you could still easily tell the difference. I think will all the objects in your houses such as pictures and other stuff you need the wall sides and tops to be different tiles.

To use 100% custom graphics is pretty impressive simply due to the amount of time it takes, but a lot of your graphics look like they were just quickly scribbled in paint just to get them done. It often looks like you drew graphics just to have 100% custom graphics with no care to how they made the game look.

Umm... more on the graphics; I think the really saturated cartoony look only really works for really simple graphics with thick black lines. I think of like flash games that you can play online when I think of this graphics feel. Like all of your edges are one pixel thick, which I think just doesn't work. I think you either need prettier, more realistic colors and graphics, which means taking a lot more time working on them, or simpler, more stylized graphics with thicker edges.

It kinda seems ok, though. The scripts like the pixel movement, side-battle and such are nice, but I did only play 3 minutes and saved it after I killed the bee.
