This is a thread for TOOL fans. I just want to see how other TOOL fans interpret TOOL music and just want to talk about TOOL. I'll start with an amazing TOOL secret.

There is a secret sync of three songs off of the 10,000 Days Album. Wings for Marie(10,000 Days Pt.1), Viginti Tres, and 10,000 Days sync like so to form an 11:16/11:13 minute song, depending on your version:

Open up an audio editing software, like the free Audacity, and import .mp3's of those three songs. Set it up so that Wings Pt.1 plays all the way through, and Vignty Tres starts right after Wings Pt.1 ends. Have 10,000 days play all the way through along side the other two. Wings Pt.1 and Viginty Tres together will add it up to the length of 10,000 days.

Simply put, it's cool.

Do they play harmoniously together, or are they just the same length?  All my CDs are boxed up in storage right now and my desktop that has all my digital versions is out of commission so I can't test for myself.  What are the original lengths of the 3 tracks?

The majority of the songs play together rather murky but their are several instances were they connect and you're like, "Woah." Umm...My versions are 6:13 for Wings Pt.1, 5:03 for Viginty Tres, and the sum of those two, 11:16, for 10,000 Days.

I want to bring up the topic of what these songs mean. Viginty Tres is Latin for 23. 23 chromosomes is what I am guessing. I feel like it coincides with Forty Six and 2, which is 46 chromosomes + 2 to make the God Consciousness, or state of complete oneness with God. It's cool to see how the songs correlate.

As for the two Wings songs, I know they have something to do with Maynard's mother Marie.

Most bands are happy to get a radio hit and some groupies, you mean? >.<  Actually there are a lot of bands that do some pretty deep and crazy random shit, see http://www.coheedandcambria.com/ for instance.  You know, all the good ones :D  That's cool though, I'll have a look at it when I get my desktop running again,  I have more important things to spend money on right now unfortunately though.

I liked how he came full circle on Marie.  His early work was virulently atheistic see Opiate and APC's Judith.  Then with wings for Marie he seems to have come a long way on the idea of faith.

What is amazing about it is his relation with faith is radically different in Judith, and seemingly very personal.  He attacks the idea of god in that song and turns it on Judith that her faith is worthless in light of her suffering.

I also think 10000 days was Maynard's strongest album lyrically.  His writing is simply powerful and very rich in that album.  There's a lot to appreciate their.

The Flaming Lips did this like 9 years earlier, only on a much larger scale.

Neurosis and Tributes of Neurot did it in 1999 with two albums meant to be played together.

i love Tool probably more than most people (i bought their demo off a highly questionable russian mp3 site) but i can't stand Tool fans or Tool fan circlejerks so i don't expect to participate much in this thread.

Haha, Teloch. Never been too a TOOL fan circlejerk. I was brought onto TOOL through drugs mainly. My friend would play it when we were high or trippin' and I loved it. I couldn't stand it sober, however. Slowly though, they've come to be my favorite band, and I've really connected with their music.
