Title Screen/Program

Ok, I am looking for a good (free) program that s good for making graphics. Something that is simple to use and can help people that aren't the best artists  :dead: . I use Graphic Gale Free Edition for some editing, but I want something that can help make detailed title screens. Any help would be great! I'm not the worlds greatest artist, that's why I'm asking. So thanks in advance.

The problem is that no program is going to "help" you make detailed title screens.  If you want one, you either have to work on your art and learn a few techniques for the program you wish to use, or you have to find someone else who is willing to work with you to get the desired result.

Personally, I use photoshop, but you may want to try the Gimp.  It's not very user friendly, but it is free, and available for download online.  Other programs you might want are paint shop pro, and paint.net.  Regardless, you'll want to try a few tutorials to learn new techniques and familiarize yourself with the program.

Good sites for tuts are pixel2life.com, and good-tutorials.com.

No matter what, if you want to do it yourself, do not neglect your art.  Sketch in your free time.  Even if it is crap, it will atleast let you get your ideas down onto paper. Hell, even grab a camera.  Sometimes the best title screens can be made from a simple nature shot with a few lines of text thrown over it.

I used MS Paint forever, but when it finally got to be time to change, I downloaded GIMP. It's free, and there are plenty of tutorials out there. I used YouTube a lot. Just searched for the function I wanted, and watched a couple random videos. Really, it's not nearly as hard to use as everyone says it is. A couple hours' practice and its good to go.

Also, I would like to agree with Darkfire in that you should definitely use your own art. Whether it be a sketch or a photo, it puts a nice personal touch in everything.
