[TITLE/GAMEOVER] WARNING-GRAPHIC HEAVY!

This is going to be updated over time. If anyone would like to request anything from me, all you have to do is ask. I will try my best to sort out all requests.

I would prefer not to do things for free... so what I would ask is that people will do a picture for a picture. I may make some exceptions depending on the challenge level of what you're asking for...

Anywho, here are the graphics:

This is the right forum, yes.

As for your graphics, don't rely on Photoshop effects so much. Five different text effects plus a filter-generated background looks junky and amateurish to anyone who's ever seen what Photoshop can do before (beveled text and difference clouds in particular are ew). Also, your fonts are really hard to read, and it doesn't really look like you're putting a lot of thought into picking ones that suit the subject matter, especially since you use the same ones over and over.

Try going for a more minimalistic approach. Instead of dumping on loads of filters, focus on the basics: how does the font work with whatever's in the background, how do the colors complement each other, how do contrast and alignment and spacing interact, etc. Making sure the message is clearly conveyed is a much higher priority than making your thing look "cool." If you make yourself work more minimalistically (with few to no effects) and focus on the basic decisions you're making, your design skills will improve.

This one is my favorite of the bunch. It doesn't have a clunky background that makes the text hard to see, and the effect here is actually kind of neat if you're going for some kind of SF-y static thing. However, the font is really out of place (also ugly and and hard to read and really overused, but those are complaints for another time). It seems like the title screen for a SF game or something, but you're using a font that's better suited to the Middle Ages. You need to think about what kind of message every single design element sends to your audience and make sure it's what you want.

I know they're kind of crappy. I did these like two years ago, to be honest. I have much better stuff but I'm not about to post all my new stuff on here. =/

Well saying they are kind of crappy when offering people a service is kind of weird, people who want to request something would like to see your latest work so they can request a high-quality image, especially if you are expecting them to give you something in return. Like Ven said these look overly filtered, try to avoid using this many filters on images. Simple and to the point tends to bode well a lot more than a trillion colors and filters.

I agree with Desecration, but I'm not Ven. :3

Anyway, Barchetta, how do you expect to interest people and get relevant critique if you don't post your best work?

As everyone else has said, you need to post your best work if you want any interest!

If you were looking for someone to say... map something for you, and you looked at their maps they had made and they all suck, but right under that the maker says, "I can do better, this is all of my shit work here"... would you seriously ask them?

The only way you can use the old "these are my old crappy ones" line is when the "old crappy ones" that you are showing off actually kick some major ass!

So, yes... if you want interest, or requests, post your best work. Otherwise, dont expect a lot of people to request anything. To them it looks like what they request will look similiar to what is already there.

And also, with your first white out image that Perihelion commented on is good because it is simple. But at the same time, someone like me who had used photoshop for years can tell just from looking at it that that is just white text with a filter put on top of it. (I cant remember the filter name, but I know that there is one that does that) and you only used that one filter... If you want your stuff to "POP" and get peoples interest, you have to mix simpleness with cleanliness, and then think outside of the box. You need to think that while that might look good, I need to do something to it that makes it different from everyone else who happens to find the same filter in the filter gallery.

Also, a good rule of thumb.... "Just because you CAN, doesnt mean you SHOULD." Just because you CAN add a bevel and emboss, with a drop shadow and a gradient overlay and outer glow, doesnt mean you SHOULD.

Sometimes its okay, but you need to first know the rules so that you can break them with style.

lol... I don't think I need 20 people telling me the same thing. Lock this thread, please. I'll start some new ones.

There's no reason to lock this thread when you can just post your new ones on this same thread. It's better this way because then we'll be able to compare and contrast between the old and the new and to see how you're improving and give you advice on what you still need to work on.

I was going to post something similar, but yeah, tofurkey hit the nail on the head. Listen to this. ~Perihelion
