Tin Man

Fucking LOVE Zooey Deschanel and Alan Cumming. Some of my favorite actors.

Admittedly the writing isn't as good as I expected but it's still pretty impressive overall (mainly because of Zooey <3).

For those you don't know about it, it's a retelling of the Wizard of Oz airing as a miniseries on the SciFi Channel. The second episode was on tonight (I just started watching it right now so).

Having just finished watching the second part (and watching it again; I normally don't like Sci-Fi for playing their new stuff to death, but I'm not regretting it with this), I can safely say that what the first part lacked in writing is made up for in this part.

This is just utterly epic, and it's only going to be getting better from here, if the previews for the third part are any clue.

I was really not that impressed with this. I can see this is a new take on an old tale, but it seems like they tried too hard to be different. Ah, at least it's not another sci-fi original movie.

Well, I haven't been able to watch the second episode yet, becuase my brother's girlfriend is a bitch and has to watch her shows on MY TELEVISION, but let me just say I hope it gets better fast.

Mostly, my problem with it is that it would be about 80% better if they just forgot about the whole Wizard of Oz thing entirely. I mean, seriously, they have departed so far from it, it's stupid to even associate the two. It's not so much a "retelling" as it is "vaguely and unnecessarily inspired by". So yeah, get rid of the Wizard of Oz references, and I think the show would improve.
Also, I dunno if things change in the second episode or not, but why in the world do they call it Tin Man? The "Tin Man" is not only the least interesting character on the show, but he's the epitomy of missed opportunities for a cool character. I mean, when they show the tin suit thing, it was bad ass. I was all stoked for those metal bands being removed (or not) and him being some sort of awesome steam-punk robot, or even an inanimate tin can that the crew has to haul around. Even when they open it, he becomes some sort of crazed grey man, and even that would have been cooler than "awkwardly tight pants angst man".

So far the character is just silly. He's a guy who got locked in a tin can for several years, yet he shows no signs of mental illness. He's just a stereotypical rogue cop character. Boring. He's not even heartless, which is what you would expect with the whole wizard of oz thing, but no. Nope. He's got compassion.

Huge missed opportunity.

Calling the main character D.G. is also silly.

Basically, I don't think the show is dark or edgy enough to pull off what it's trying to do.

Maybe it will redeem itself?

I just recently finished watching the whole Series and I was fond of this retale of The wizard of oz.Although most of the show had Wizard of oz references, It did have a heavy sci-fi Story to it.I personally thought that it was a Great show. Also like the many others That have psted above me I also belive it should have some more creative writing of how she was introduced to how she was born in Oz.Being a Aspring Writer it had good story and Characters playing the roles,Maybe Sci-fi should try focusing on certain Parts of introducing the charcters Intro and Intro of how she was a Princess,Used to live in Oz,Etc

So, in retrospect, this series never really did truly redeem itself, but I stand by my assertion that it would have been good without the wizard of Oz references, which just made the whole thing campy.

It was good, I watched it.

I found it a bit weird how they made it so that *Conveiniantly* D.G. (J?) gets her sister turned into a witch-personalitized person.

It was good though, I found it very fun.
