Tileset Practice (WIP)

Just a short reply this time. On your new and improved grass, I think it looks pretty solid (although for some reason is a different style to the rest of the set. It doesn't have that high res feel of the rest of it). I'd actually recommend you follow that low colour approach. The only problem I see with the grass is that I think it has too much contrast between the two shades. It's quite distracting on the map and I think you to reduce the contrast between them (not too much though, you need to find the balance).

On that cylindrical purple wall you've made, I urge you to put some shading on it. It looks very flat at the moment, but my just simply adding shade (like you have done on your icey wall of a similar shape) it will bring out the depth of the piece and help it out to no end. It won't be perfect, but it will be a dramatic improvement.

I've done a lot of miscellaneous work on different parts of it since my last update, so I'm not going to try and compile a post of all the changes. I did try and fix the issues The Inquisitor pointed out, changing the grass especially helped. Though my purple pillar/wall still needs work.

I'll add this new piece though, I think it turned out pretty good. Though, it may be a bit too simple styled to fit in with the rest of the stuff, maybe not though.

 
The walls in that tileset look pretty darn good! I also really like the small pillar-like rock thingy.

The light on ground piece doesn't look like it would work, though.

I would like to see this in action.
 
Thanks for the comments guys, I assure you I do read them, I've just been in lurking mode the last few months. In regards to your comment about the perspective, irukard, I'm aware that's something that I can struggle with. However, some of what you're seeing is also probably pieces I've long since abandoned or are unfinished, such as the lanterns.

I found some time to return to my project over winter break and get some more work done on this. I've got some other stuff I'm working on too, but since this is the closest to being completed I'll post it.

I really need to work on cleaning up the first post again, I'll try and do that in the next couple days. I've got to rearrange and update some stuff in the tilesets first though.

WIP, I put the floor tile together in like 5 minutes, so don't give it too much attention. (oh, the glow around the fire is temporary too, I just used the same fire from the last tileset as a test.) Just going to post a test map right now, the tileset isn't really put together nicely right now or even close to finished. I'm trying to make this one a bit more unique, and tile differently than the rtp.

About 2/3 of the color palette is borrowed for now, I may or may not switch it.

 


Started on an interior. I've got some objects/furniture blocked out too, will post when I have enough work done on them. The interior is supposed to be for a snow town type interior.
