there was a THREAD here (SILENT HILL)

im trying to think of a good thrill in homecoming.

... well ... i guess that one doll boss was p good. where she looked like a spider and you had to chop off pieces of her legs

um. there was a puzzle at the end where you have to put your hand in a hole with a chance of it being mauled? which was a little unsettling i suppose

your mom gets FUCKED RIGHT UP if you dont shoot her. it wasnt a cerebral scare, but it was certainly visceral, i guess. i was digging the 'YOU'RE THE EXCECUTIONER. ITS YOU" thing. but then you weren't your dad's executioner, so the theme wasn't upheld.

fff all i can think of is how angry i was they had pyramid heads in it. THOSE ARE JAMES PH IS JAMES FFFF

yes yes the PHs were a ceremonial executioner or whatever but the entire point in the "main" mons'a's was that they were personifications of the person's closeted demons, and PH was James's personified lust/wrath.

they just put him in homecoming because "yay ph is cool!" and yes he is very cool but did no one on the team ever sit there and play any of the previous games at all or even read the silent hill wiki or anything?? christ

ffffffffffffff

even the shadow/light effects were shit

ffffffffffffffffffff

now im angry :<

hahaha this was my exact experience with it too. Silent Hill Homecoming: polarizing opinions and making silent hill nerds rage since its inception

is Scarlet the backwards crabwalking long-limbed thing? because that was absolutely creepy as fuck

yeah
well there were def some well-designed bosses. like the human centipede-looking Asphyxia.

sh:h had "sexy" nurses (lots of cleavage ... no face though :x), like SH2. but not much reason since there were zero sexual connotations in the plot. needlers (the ones with the blade arms) and schisms (the ones with the vertical shark heads??) were sort of cool, but the others were somewhat uninspired.

ok in the 1st "chapter", alex is having a hallucination of being in a hospital. he wakes up on a stretcher and is wheeled through a hallway, and eventually into the lobotomy room. while in the hallway, the camera gleans past several doors. they show foreshadowing snippets of holloway, fitch, and the mayor committing murder, and are shown a foreshadowing scene of his father being killed (except it's the doctor who's going to give the lobotomy ... a metaphor, i suppose, of how his father was alex's failed "executioner").

you don't really invest much thought into it until after you've played nearly the whole game, and realize that this scene was basically giving you the entire plot at once, in a way.

that was pretty well done.

so hooray, a redeeming factor :)

Oh god, not another one. *PLEASE* not another one. They should have stopped making Silent Hills after 4. Hell, depending on who you talk to, they shouldn't have even made 4.

Let it die before it turns into Resident Evil.

update on the subway system in Drought mentioned in the OP:

Hey All,

As I've mentioned in past interviews, I read this forum quite often, and wanted to let you all know we DO pay attention to your posts. There are many times when I'd love to post in reply to a misinformed fan, or in defense of a theory that is contradictory to the actual design in Downpour. However, I think it's best to remain on the 'sidelines' most of the time and let people speculate. As well, we have a pretty solid strategy as to how we release information, so most of the time I have to sit back and bite my lip, no matter how badly I want to discuss the design with all of you.

SOOO that being said, before this thread got derailed (pun intended), I've been meaning to set the record straight on some of the subway system speculation. For no other reason than to temper the expectations on this mechanic.

I think there's a misconception by some that Murphy will be buying tickets, waiting on the platform for the 5:00 train, and then riding a train to reach his destination. I'll let you know right now, that isn't the case. As you can see in the screenshots, we have subway stations that have service tunnels that Murphy can traverse to reach other areas of town. Think of these subway tunnels as "shortcuts" that could speed up your town navigation--not literal train rides.

When I say could, that is assuming you don't get 'derailed' by any tunnel dwellers along the way ;-)

Sorry to those of you who were expecting something 'bigger' than this, but the subway system is a mechanic that was implemented out of sheer convenience, for those lazier players who don't feel like taking a long walk to their destination. Granted, you can if you want... Hope this helps shed some light!

Best,
Devin

so it's not going to be a straight up "fast travel" system which is what i was initially afraid of i guess, it looks to be a risk-reward type of dealie

Glad it's optional, myself. I tend to just ignore things that's optional that I don't like, such as fast travel as such.

This probably doesn't belong here since it involves the shitty movie but until there's more info it doesn't hurt - there's some new info about the new Silent Hill movie. I thought Hollywood's rendition was p bland and mediocre even if it had well-done creatures and prosthetics and whatnot, but maybe someone else is interested.

I swear to god if there's a mannequin room in the movie just like there is in the game i'm going to poop myself. Scariest part of ALL THE GAMES EVER.

ahahaha

or a mirror and a bathtub :specs:

What you said about Heather makes me think, there really is something about the graphicss in Silent Hill 3 that make them age really well, aside from a few horrifying facial contortions during regular conversation but I guess you could say it's part of the atmosphere! Characters had blemishes, pores, bags under their eyes, weird eyebrows, all kinds of stuff - they just felt very real, even moreso than a lot of newer games with much better graphics.
