TheAmateurAnimator's MIDIs (Original and not-so-original)

Hi, RMXP.org. I'm an amateur composer with a demo of FL Studio 7 and I wanted to share some MIDIs I made. They're not too good, but I guess they're halfway decent. See link at the bottom of the post for the .rar file containing the songs!

I like MIDIs for RMXP because I feel that a lot of the time, high-quality mp3s of awesome live orchestral music and stuff are as incongruous with RMXP's sprite graphics as a HK charset is with an RTP tileset.

Here are some not-so-original MIDIs, but they are made from scratch:

First up: a remake of "Gargoyles" from the X-Files episode "Grotesque." I love the X-Files and its resident composer Mark Snow, and after practically memorizing the song, I recreated it in under an hour.

Next: a remix of "Ghost Love Score" by Nightwish. It's got a completely original intro!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now for some original stuff:

Futuristic Ambience I, II, III, and IV are ambient MIDIs relying on pads and repetition rather than melody. I like them.

Sixty Seconds to Satan is, not surprisingly, sixty seconds long. It's got intense percussion. I mean for it to be used with a timer/countdown.

I'm not happy with the title on Tank March, but I'm proud of the synthetic effects I was able to create using MIDIs.

Pursuit is a percussive chase song.

Stormy Night is an ambient strings/percussion song, and it has (gasp!) a key transposition!

Ambient Menu Theme is a nice ambient menu theme.

Duel is an orchestral/IDM song. It's intense.

Jazz is actually more like surfing music.

Psycho Mantis has nothing to do with the Metal Gear villain, but the song sounds like the Psycho Mantis boss battle from MGS: The Twin Snakes.

Alien Bounty Hunter is a short X-Files-ish ME.

Chase-Duel is a percussive and action-packed battle theme.

Crisis is a cinematic theme.

Escape is an action-packed battle theme meant for pursuit.

Forest Suite is a long song with three permutations--Normal, Battle, and Evasion. Transitions are obvious.

Here is the .rar with all of these songs:http://www.box.net/shared/yfou5kw4ks

What is the license on the original pieces?  I'm listening to them right now, and I think I might like to use them.

I totally agree there, 100%.

These are very high quality, though, you can barely tell they're MIDIs. You use some great rhythms and they really convey a sense of ... Time. Like, in Pursuit and 60 Secs to Satan, it really feels like you have to hurry up. Very cool

You're probably getting less comments than usual because you're using Rapidshare. There's a pretty good uploading service I saw around here for music ........ http://box.net/ -- yeah, that's it. I dunno if it's free or not, though. I have my own domain. You probably don't care or anything, but I just wanted to mention why music of this high caliber probably isn't getting the replies it should.

I feel honored by your interest in this thread.

I tried taking mp3s from video games (stuff like Metal Gear Acid, etc) and turning them into oggs that looped perfectly and caused no lag for my games, but it never felt right with RMXP's graphics, so I decided that MIDIs may have an old-fashioned sound, but they have the right sound for the software. Besides, when I compose, I have total creative control, limited only by my ambition...and laziness.

Awesome! Thanks :D

Man, these are jam-packed with futuristic goodness. I keep listening to the ambient ones, too. Makes me wish I were doing a futuristic game :P. I'm sure these'll prove quite handy to a good number of people though. Nice work!!

I lifted a lot of the percussion in the ambient pieces (particularly the use of the taiko drum) from the Terminator soundtrack.

SPEAK NOT OF MY VIDEO GAME "REMIXES." They are from a portion of my life I would rather forget.
