The Secret of Ludia

Right now I've finished the text editing process up to this point. I need a few testers who will give me honest suggestions/bug reports/criticism before I release the next demo to all y'all. Just to let you know the first impression you give to me will count, in other words if you go "OMG PLZ LET ME TESTZ PLZA PLZA PLZ!!!!!????" you are least likely to be selected.:-/

If I think you're good, I will give you a pm with the link to the demo. :)

Updated the first page with more character images. I'm currently waiting for a person, whome I gave an updated demo to, to show me whatever problems are present.

Ok, a new demo may be coming around sometime that is near, depending on the respond rate of two people whom I gave an updated version to for the purpose of bug-testing/suggestions to make better.

In addition, for the sake of nothing better to do, I give you a pretty full rundown of how this horrendously dumb project came to be made:

>Early On...
I was pretty thrilled to finally download RPG Maker XP, didn't really know where to start, however. To explore the capabilities of this program, I made a pathetic little game I titled "Messeh" (Since I knew it was going to reek). I went to the database and edited the actors (Aluxes is too much of a homo for my taste). Upon doing so I found that blue-haired, skinny chick that was called "Fighter-02", and since I was personally sick of games in which the main character is a male (RPG cliches, anyone?), I chose that default character and named her "Mikami". For this I was totally making up the story as I go along, where I formed the rest of the cast as well.
Even though I kind of knew it was out of my league at the time, I wanted to add a small, mechanical character that resembles a robot beetle, when I tried making the sprite, I kind of failed as to what I intended it to look like, but I stuck with that image and named it "Beetal". Consider it the first custom resource I put into any RMXP project.
Aside from that, the game was just pure newbie crap. It was pretty plotless and... well, it was just a bunch of meh. The project ended when I wanted to experiment with a script, and ended up messing it all up. I'm glad I did, though... In a way.

>The Second Attempt
I've originally just wanted to test the abilities of RMXP, but since I developed more of a storyline I decided to start over with this project. It would have been better in these ways:
>There would actually be a reason why Mikami would leave her hometown (The voices in her head).
>A little more character development.
>A plot of the "secret" of the planet my game was set in.
>A better title (This was where I named the project "The Secret of Ludia". The name "Ludia" was thought up at random).
As well as the first attempt, this redo soon met its demise as well. I was working on the "Duprea Tower" area when my computer froze upon testplaying. Having to shut it down improperly, I end up corrupting all the data that was in my game, forcing me to start from scratch once again...

>And Yet, I Start Again!
Like the first attempt at making this game, I've felt I've learned a lot about using the RMXP program to make great effects and features, as well as improving my RTP mapping to upgrade the graphic feel of the game (Just because this game's seriousness is low doesn't mean the graphics have to be low). I feel I've now developed all characters in my plot a lot more fully and gave a reason to like or hate him/her (i.e. Alpha's whiny personally may make you want to make fun of her), and that now I have the points to the plot kind of figured out (I say kind of because I've set the points for the plot to get to, but as far as getting to those points I never, immediately figure it out, causing me to make up some story parts as I go along). Now I've wised up a little bit to make regular back-up copies of my game in case something stupid happens! xD
And so... I'm at this point, the third time I redid this was the first time I tried letting the e-public know about it. With the help of the e-public, I feel I have also made improvements to this project, which is why in the credits script I plugged in I credited the player of the game. :D

So... Yeah. That was all I needed to say. If you cared to read through this shit... Well... Here's a thumbs-up emoticon:

Sure, I was planning on getting multiple people to test my game anyway. It's still incomplete, just to let you know. I'll send you a pm with the game.

Lately I've been trying to edit some graphics to make this game a little bit better. I've made a new title screen, a new gameover graphic, a new battler to the character Beetal, and an edit to the mine town battleback.

New Title:

Gameover Graphic:

Mine Town Battleback edit, made because I wanted a darker atmosphere.

Beetal's new battler:

I need to know if any of these look good, and suggestions on whether they should be changed in any way. Your thoughts?

Also, I will update the credits section, since I'm using some graphics made by other people. Thanks to RMXP for its awesome reasources!:thumb:

Aside from what the title says, I've updated the first post with two new screen shots:

Alpha The Fairy exploring some dark sewer.

Duprea, the eccentric witch, responds to Mikami's request to gain a portal key.

As for what I've been doing so far, I've edited the database to fit my preferences, a.k.a. renaming/rewriting skills and descriptions (In example: I've changed the name of the "Dazzle" skill to "Brain Scramble"). For the most part, however, I've been trying to complete the fourth section of the game, a part which is almost complete. If I can get this chapter done, a new demo will be posted, so that you won't have to go through the horrid torture of one posted on the first page. :p

Heheh, I have to say that your mappings certainly improved. That negative fog adds a nice touch, too. :) Good luck with the current demo you are working on~

Lol I can't help laughing at the gameover, The secret of Ludia remains undiscovered, just the bluntness of it cracks me up, I like the title, looks like ya photoshop the game name over the sky paranomic....but I won't tell, overall I give this game a...................7 out 10 dling demo now.

Finally, I've released an updated demo of the game. Hopefully MOST of some complaints I've received will be addressed. Links are on the front page.

@G-man: When I was creating that gameover with the outdated, hand-me-down photoshop I have, I was trying to think of a better phrase to add over a simple "Game Over". So... I came up with that. As for the title I've edited my previous title and used the "cloud" filter to create the background. I thought it would be a little more nice-looking. xD

I love this game!!! :# It is fricken hilarious! XD I'm just so sad that I think I did something wrong! I am stuck because I went to the farm and met Jenny before I went to Chef Boyardee! What do I do now?! WAHHHH! Oh, wait, I'll just abuse you until the full version comes out! :D Just kidding![/FONT]
