The Secret of Ludia

http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j114/ ... ecopy2.png[/img]
Info:
This was the first project I've really made with RPG Maker XP, though it was remade up to 2 times already (first was due to a script mess up, and it was pretty shitty; second was because the data files became corrupt). However, the good thing about that is this game would be much better compared to the other projects.  :)
In regards to how I came up with this, I wanted to make a game with both robots and a fantasy-ish setting. I also wanted the main hero to be a girl, since It's something I don't see in many games (and no, she's not a harlot, I try to make her close to a normal person as possible). Also, I've intended this game to be mainly comedic, since that fits along my interests and I wanted to make something that people might laugh at.
  That is all.

Story:
In another galaxy, there is an Earth-like planet which the inhabitants called "Ludia". Unlike present-day Earth, the people of Ludia are way behind in technological standards, and live in semi-medieval lifestyles. The inhabitants are consist of Humans, Irregulars (Elves, Fairies, etc.), and the paranormal animals referred to as "Monsters". This is what the residents know, though, for there is more to the planet than anyone really knows.

In a small, mountainous village, a teenage Fighter-in-Training, named Mikami Maya, hears a mysterious cry for help. By approval of her father, Morochi Maya, she has set out to rescue the one who is in distress. Little does she know, that she is about to discover things that no one in the world has ever seen or learned.

Name: Mikami Maya (Pronounced "Mee-Kah-Mee")
Age: 17
Class: Fighter Trainee
Personality: Sassy, Optimistic, A bit bad-tempered
Bio: Mikami is a Fighter class trainee who has an average, teenager stereotype personality. While she is quite good with the sword (thanks to her training), she tends to take things a bit less than seriously, which sometimes leads to trouble. Even though she can be outright rude and bad-mouthed, she has a kind, helpful heart, and wouldn't pass the chance to assist others in need.

http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j114/ ... sprite.jpg[/img]
Name: Alpha the Fairy (Pronounced "Al-Fah")
Age: 100 (Fairies live a long time in this world)

Bio: Alpha is one of a large group of fairy siblings (all named after the Greek alphabet). She was sent by Mikami's father to provide aid to her quest, though Mikami herself didn't really think she would need a companion. She can complain about nearly anything that someone could make a complaint about, which earned her a lot of disinterest from Mikami, who bullies Alpha to relieve her stress.

http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j114/ ... sprite.jpg[/img]
Name: B-01 "Beetal"
Age: Robots have no real age
Class: Robot

Strangely, Beetal has no memory of who created him or what that creator really intended for him.

However, he thought this would be the best experiance for his daughter and decided to let her off, not knowing that that the adventure was going to be a lot more than he thought.

Name: Melanie Buhtsecks
Age: 19
Class: Traveler
Personality: A bit of a geek
Bio: Melanie enjoys to travel to many different places, a quality similar to Serges. She is a bit socially awkward as she'll walk up to any random person and say hi to them or ask stupid questions. She also has a crush on Serges.

Age:(none)
Class: Robot(s)
Personality: Considerably retarded
Bio: The Beebee Bots are a series of low-level, rectangular combat robots who often are the ones that run errands for their creator, Dr. Lue. Since more effort was put into abilities than intelligence, the Beebee Bots exhibit childish behaviors and are generally stupid, such that it makes Dr. Lue look less serious than he really is. Despite their fragility and mental dumb-down, they are produced rapidly and come in great numbers.

Gotta say I love those retarded bots. They are so weird that they are funny :D
I also like the evil scientist behind them, I hope he is somekind of weirdo too.

I'll try the demo soon.

Just started it, and the first I see is a tip worth. All of the people who walk around, they walk a bit laggy. You can get this away if you set the freq to 6.
Edit: The houses are a bit square, and inside the houses are not really seperate rooms... They got a bit too much open space.
Edit2: There are also some mapping bugs, if you go to serges boat, landing stage have no piles to stand on.
Edit3: (yes I like edits today) Nice demo, I completed it. I like the end very much:D

Hehe this game is pretty fun, even tho the mapping ain't very good and there aren't any custom scripts. ^^
This kinda reminds me of my first RPG on RM2K :p

Anyways, looking forward to the full version. :)

I almost thought this project was going to get completely turned off. XD

@T0tal King: I have posted this project before in other forums, and got similar feedback on the maps. I've edited those maps since then, especially the houses. And about the Serges boat, yeah, I think I need to redo the map entirely since I can't find a landing pile in the tileset for the front part of the platform.

@ zealex: Since this demo I've actually added two scripts: an Anti-Lag script and a credits script. Other than that I don't really intend to add any special scripts for this game (In future projects I'll most likely do so, however).

Anyway, I may put up a second demo for this game. Originally I've planned on making it longer, but I feel it would be a bit long for a demo, meaning that I might post it up soon.

I will help you with working away mapping errors...

Ok, I played the demo a bit until I got stuck in the first spar arena. I challenged that Arshes and Mikami got stuck in the counter (you probably forgot to put "move right" there).

About the story: one problem with it is the speed. The story proceeds a way too fast, first you're in the hometown, and after a few seconds you're leaving it for a quest. You could add some events to develop the characters somewhat, or the game could start right away from the point where Mikami begins her journey.

Those are suggestions, though.

Secondly, the enemies were too easy. Bee bee bots were fine, but Jole was child's play, even a training battle should have some challenge. Troll was easy too.
It is okay if the enemies get harder in future though.

Shoot, I could have sworn I tested that sparring area and found no problems, I'll look into that.

In regards to the enemies, I've intended Jole to be pretty easy to beat, serving the purpose of letting an RMXP newbie player getting the feel of a battle. The more you progress in the game the more tougher enemies there will be to face, that will be guaranteed.

Played through it; although the game froze when I talked to the troll after I beat him.

I found some of the random dialogues and moments to be funny. The mapping itself however, needs work. Check out some mapping tutorials on this forum for it. Everything else is pretty much standard, and not much to comment on since it uses all default systems.

Over all, it's a good start but needs work. :) Keep at it, you'll improve. Good luck!

Update:
Demo #2 is almost on it's way. I've sent a similar copy of the demo to T0tal King, who I have asked to test the project and find anything wrong. I'm still waiting for a reply, at one point he mentioned that he couldn't play the demo for some odd reason. Well... let's just hope it ends well. Bye'cha!

Ok, I've finally released the second demo. Just to let you all know, the changes made to this game would have NEVER happened if any of you members did not post criticism, thank you. I hope that the new demo will be much more pleasing to all of you.

Features of the new demo:
> Addition of Chapter 3 and part-way of 4, adding more time to this game.
> Improved maps (a.k.a. added more details and edited some things).
> Actually uses two scripts (Nothing that really changes the system dramatically, its just an Anti-Lag and a Credits script, note that you won't see the credits script in action in this demo)
> Added a Windowskin changer item (So your eyes won't have to bleed to ONE windowskin!)
> Edited Events and solved some mentioned bugs which was due to my less-than-par eventing.
> Gave hints to hidden items in the game (This was done with the creation of a new character called Sparekin, which give you hints to such items).

So, yeah! I also updated the first page to include the demo and use spoiler tags (as to ease the irritation of scrolling down long posts). This is also my final demo. Unless someone mentions to me any bugs or such, the last part of the game that will be posted will be the completed version. So... HAVE FUN!

Bye'cha!

To those who are still interested in this project, I've updated the first post to include a Megaupload link the demo if you need it.

Since I've got a few mapping errors pointed out to me (not by majority of you). I'm going to change a few things. This means I'll repost the second demo when that time comes. Plus, once I get some more, I'll post some screenshots of the updated maps. Bye'cha!

I see u r not getting much feedback on this project. Do not give up though, i played through the demo and it was pretty good. Lots of room for improvement, but it is a good overall and funny game.

To make the game have a better feel and gameplay, try out some scripts, different music, and various other things besides just system graphics and such. I am looking forward to your next demo.

I wish I could offer some non-spam feedback, but with my job, an arc on MotW to finish up, GA entries, and a boatload of other games nominated for the RMXP Academy Awards, it's a safe bet I won't get to this for a while.

Starting a new project is rough, and usually attention is slow to come. Even the most successful project threads were pretty dull for a while at some point. A word of advice from someone who has seen a lot of projects, though: Posts like "Waits for the feedback" hurt much more than they help. If nobody's weighed in yet, keep working and producing demos with significant updates (not just a few new maps or a different windowscreen or anything like that). If your project is strong enough, you'll get more feedback eventually. Playing other demos and leaving feedback is usually a good idea as well, people will likely want to return the favor.

@Volrath: Thanks for the advice, I feel a little bit more helped, now.

@Blitz_Star_7: I'm trying my best to make this game at least somewhat impressive, the main reason why I didn't use many scripts is mainly... well... scriptophobia? When I was working on this project as my first RPG Maker project, my incompetence of inserting scripts pretty much killed the first project (Though that project is better off dead...). Many people have suggested such to me, and I may reconsider my goal in making this game not have any important scripts. Thank you for your input.

@minkoff: ... lol, that's all I have to say xD
