Keep in mind I'm just talking about exclusives here, people. Feel free to add your input, but as it stands, look at the categories that matter most to you, and make your own decision. (I also probably made mistakes, feel free to correct me)

Imo there's barely any difference between the 2, apart from the exclusive games, they're both good consoles and I'd probably have both if I could afford it :p.
The only thing I don't like about the PS3 is the controllers, idk I just don't like the size of them, they just don't feel right. (I'm a 360 owner btw)
Other than that there's not much I have to add and I can only hope this thread won't be ruined by annoying fanboys. (I know you're out there somewhere... :|: )

same here, people still get really heated up by CONSOLEDEBATE and it's retarded. I don't think I'll ever regret having an xbox *(well technically it's not mine but technicalities~) because I favor most of their exclusives, but I have to admit having free internet on the console would be pretty rad too.

if you can't afford both, have or make a friend with the opposite console and be mutual mooches. problem solved?

see i have super small hands so the xbox controllers are too big for my hands :c My favorite controller ever made were the gamecube controllers those were awesome

We have a PS3. I dont like shooters or anything, so that is why the xbox never appealed to me. But I dont play that much anyways. I usually play wii games or DS games or something, im a nintendo kid at heart, which is weird cause you dont mention it at all. Yeah, the selection of wii games are pretty lol, but one thing nintendo does really well is non-generic gameplay. Its just sad to see great games so sparse. :c

You can't really make a list like this and say one thing is better than the other, since it's all based on opinion to be honest, although I will say, and this should be agreed upon by everyone, that Sony has, by far, the widest variety of exclusive games, they don't have the most, but they have a game for just about anyone, that any player or even non player could pick up and enjoy.

I've grown up with the Playstation brand, I mean, sure before I had a PS1 I had a Sega Megadrive, then N64 and Sega Saturn, and I got my Dreamcast a year or two after the PS1, but still, I've always felt that the Playstation consoles define gaming, this is just me, other people will have different opinions, but I can ask anyone to name a games console at random, or which console they associate with videogames, and the majority of the time, they'll say Playstation. I feel that through this console generation the PS3 has been vaguely ahead, this is because I don't have a defined favourite genre of game, if I were a shooter fan, which I am, but not to the extreme, I'd buy a 360, which oddly enough, I have 2 of them, and only 3 shooters, lol. I like variety in my games, I mean I can hop from Killzone 2 to LittleBigPlanet, to White Knight Chronicles, and finally land on Gran Turismo 5 (It's not out yetbut Prologue is, lol), and obviously their gameplay experiences are all different since they're completely different genres, whereas the majority of the exclusives on the 360 are shooters, and on Wii they seem to be either fitness, platformer or party games, two of these I generally dislike.

tl;dr

I prefer PS3 over 360 because of the wider variety of exclusive games.

Blazblue is availble for 360.. that remove's the "exclusive" mark ;D

Is it really? Wow. Ok, will do.

Also, yes. I agree with jbrist. I am all around what you would call a ps3 fanboy, and that alone might completely devalue my opinion based on bias. However, I did give = signs and > signs to 360, since I have played both console's exclusives games and in a lot of cases I would say they are equal or greater than the ps3's in some genres.

I like how the Wii isn't even considered. Aside from the fact that the Wii immediately loses out when it comes to hardware (it isn't even HD! and it can't play movies without a hacked save file for the Wii version of Twilight Princess) It actually sells far more than both the 360 and PS3, statistically speaking. Part of this is because it's aimed at several markets that the other two aren't aimed at (could you imagine your grandparents playing Halo Wars, or Wii Fit?), and part of it is because they got out into the market early and have had a good price point all along. Still, the Wii can compete in other categories, if only because, in many cases, Nintendo is very good at providing alternative playing styles for what you would expect to be a generic game. (I mean, before Pokémon was done to death, it was actually a pretty cool idea) Plus, the wii is excellent for group play. The only fighting game I can think of that allows more than the standard 1v1 fight is the Super Smash Bros series, and I know for a fact that that provides a far, far different experience than, say, Guilty Gear or Street Fighter. The only area I see Nintendo lacking signifcantly, aside from hardware, is Nintendo's allowance of games that should never be made (How many Barbie games are there now?) and the fact that they tend not to pander to an adult audience nearly as well as Sony and Microsoft. Oh, and the fact that they have this annoying habit of making some of their very best games exclusive to Japan because they don't think they would sell well elsewhere.

Before anyone says I'm a Nintendo fanboy, I like my PS3 better. I'm just playing devil's advocate.

Wii is a completely different experience. It wouldn't even be fair. It like comparing peaches to plums, and then asking how bananas fair in the mix (just to be on record: plums>peaches).

yeah, it's not that it's on the list because it's not even in the running - it's not there because the xbox/ps3 share so many similarities and such.

(although I've never even played a wii unfortunately! literally not played a single next gen nintendo game)

Games exclusiveness comparison:
Xbox 360 games: 763 (exclusive: 116; console exclusive: 65; multiplatform: 593)
Ps3 games: 649 (exclusive: 124; console exclusive: 8; multiplatform: 516)

Xbox 360 wins with more games, but it was released before ps3, so some old games "should be" removed from that. PS3 has a few more unique exclusive games, but it's almost a tie with 360. And finally, 360 has many, many, many more console exclusive games (Some games pc have are also for 360).

And for dlc games, 360 has many more (And xna adds many points, as almost relatively everyone can make a game for it "easily"), so there is one point for 360. (However, I'm not comparing games quality)

And, No price comparison?
Xbox 360 is cheaper and still doesn't looses much quality because having worse hardware (But next year the difference will be notable, and now there are already some games that run laggy in 360 and fine in ps3, and others that have better movies/textures/audio in ps3 thanks to blu-rays).
Games for 360 are cheaper also. And if you include piracy, well xbox 360 surely wins on that. But if you have money, ps3 is overall better (At least if you ignore 360 exclusive games).

i have to add my two bits, ps3 is a over priced waste of MY time. :P the wii sells better because it is so much cheaper and all the kids want it, and since its cheap the parents buy it vice the 360 or ps3. that being said it also has almost no violence in any of the games, one more reason for parents to buy. judging on what other people have said i must be one of the few who like the 360 better. i dont really care, i dont like getting into debates or 360 vs ps3, mac vs windows, or anything like that. i just wanted to say, i PERSONALLY prefer the 360.(it also helps the my 3 favorite games are: mass effect 2, fable 2, rainbow six las Vegas 2) lol

that means nothing to me the xbox isnt worth the price, let alone the gaystation. if games are gonna cost that much the consoles should be cheap.

On a semi-related note, kudos to bethesda for actually publishing the PC version of the game cheaper than the console versions. It costs more money to make console games, and most companies put that overhead into the PC games which isn't right.

I haven't checked out prices from europe, but for example new vegas is selling at us$ 43-46 for 360 and 48-53 for ps3. I have compared some other new released games, and normaly ps3 games cost around us$ 6 more than 360 ones. But there are some games that cost the same, and even a few ones from ps3 that are cheaper.

Btw, pirated games from 360 are sold here at around us$ 6.3, and if you download them and burn them yourself that costs us$ 1~2, for the dvd.

mod note: this is a pretty cool discussion so far and it's awesome how everyone is keeping a cool head, so please don't mess it up by going "HEH GAYSTATION" in lieu of actual input.

I have access to all three consoles in some form or other, and right now I gotta say I prefer the XBox by just a small margin. it's mostly just a holdover from the time when PS3 developers hadn't really gotten into the swing of things yet -- I just own a more rounded library for the XBox, since I haven't had a lot of time for video games lately and I got the PS3 relatively recently. titles like Castlevania Lords of Shadow etc. are pretty tempting, though.

(and for what it's worth, I love the Wii's first-party titles. I just think the console's major stumbling block is that third-party developers hardly know what to do with the motion technology and wind up incorporating it in a really dumb way.)

as a sidenote, has anyone tried out Kinect or Playstation Move? I've been wondering how they've worked out so far, especially since both companies have the Wii to use as reference when designing motion controls and how to incorporate them.

sorry i didnt mean to sound neg like that :( irt Kinect and playstation move, i personally like them both equally, tho i must say wii still has them beat, but that might be due to lack of titles. we shall see

yeah, I don't think either one will really out-waggle the Wii. they're optional peripherals to the main control scheme, after all, while motion controls have always been the Wii's focus. then again, they're both much more recent technologies, so they might be better from a purely technical standpoint.

I'm sort of sketchy about Kinect in particular, since it relies on recognition of human movements rather than an actual controller it can get feedback from. how accurate is it at telling you apart from your sofa, or noting that an arm swing is an arm swing and not in fact a ceiling fan?

(p.s. no worries, man. I just wanted to make make sure everyone's clear that console infighting wouldn't be a cool thing. everyone's been really great in here so far.)
