The Last Awakening - [Game On Hold]

Wow, Durastik.  I really appreciate your post.  It actually made me want to try this again.

I expected some post from someone talking about how I should give up on RMXP if I can't handle criticism (spelled correctly* ;) or because I give up too easily.  Which may be true, but I've decided that I need to go back to my novel for a while until I sink back into writer's block and start craving RMXP all over again.

I really appreciate your ideas about the tilesets, and tonight I'm going to go rent Sleepy Hollow.  This project was in very early production, and mapping was no exception.  The screens were only there so the thread wouldn't be closed. Which means I probably should have posted this in Concept Development instead for the time being.  And thanks once more for offering with the tilesets.  When I reopen this, I'll pm you about it.

Thanks again.

Aww! This game sounded alot of fun, too bad the game is discontinued. It seem'd good xD Except the mapping, which needs alot of work though.

^ I recently sent him a set of fused recolours, I think he is going to continues on it now, or at least at some point.

Come on Mikee, don't leave us hanging out for it! If you need event help or extra tiles, chuck me a PM.

Peace

Ha ha.  Alright alright guys.  I'm going to give this a few hours tonight.  But I need some suggestions on the battle system.  I liked the one I had, but obviously it's too complex for everyone...  Geh...  And I'm a noob scripter, so I have no hope of making a custom system.

I'm not so sure turnbased would do it.  I need something to compliment the sandbox style, and make it feel like you're free to do what you want, when you want.  Turnbased locks you into a battle and forces you to fight or attempt to flee.  I think it takes away from the players freedom.  And I could try an event based battle system, but from what I've seen they're REALLY glitchy, and I think that would be tough to get away from especially with all of the things that I want to do with the game.

However;  you're totally right about the events thing.  I made a lockpicking game solely based off of events and it works perfectly in an empty project, but when I used the EXACT same events in The Last Awakening, it all fell apart and it doesn't work at all... And I've checked it DOZENS of times.  Maybe I'll do some researching.

Thanks for the advice.

I use a lot of common events.  It's too hard not to with a day/night system, random weather, thirst system and all that jazz.  But all of that works just fine without the scripts.  Not sure why... actually, come to think of it, the day/night system may have something to do with it...  I'll look into that.

Thanks

Thanks, Durastik.  I'm going to keep playing with the mapping tonight and maybe I'll get a bit of a playable demo worked out for tomorrow for you.  Once you give me some feedback, I'll reopen this project.

In the meantime, can you think of anything else, aside from storyline that this game is going to need, or should have in order to keep it fun and interesting?  I've got the basics, but it just seems like it needs more to keep it playable.

I don't know if you were around for it, but there used to be a thing we did here called 'build it'. Basically you had to build a small town or village, with the goal of making everything as interactive as possible.

IE, if you looked at any item, it would have a description, and alot of items had interactions. Such as lighting/putting out fires, locking doors, putting items into aswell as out of containers etc...

By adding as much interactivity as possible, players will enjoy the game more and spend more time exploring. I had little things in my project like 'smoke leaf' that once dropped into a fireplace or down a chimney, would make the occupants pass out/fall asleep. You could steal crops from fields or plant new ones.

Peace

Oh man.  Those are great ideas!  I never really thought of that.  Maybe I should put a few exploration hours into Fable II and incorporate some of the things there.  It's a bit like what you're talking about if you haven't played it.  Thank you again.

Oh, yesterday I was searching through a resource site for tilesets and I found one I liked, so when I clicked save as, the target name came up as Durastick1... I don't know if that has anything to do with you at all, but have you made any custom tilesets or big recolors?  I'll go find the tileset and post it.  I wouldn't have thought anything of it except that you just did that recolor for me and I thought... wait a minute...

coz your holding this projects... kinda make me sad coz i like games with many control buttons..lol... thats what i meant...

Ah...  Well it's being worked on.  I just didn't want to officially open the thread up again just in case I give up on it again.  We'll see what happens.  Don't get too excited, but don't give up!

I know the one you're talking about. That's Zanyzora's tileset she made me back in the .net days. Alot of them are texture rips but there are some nice ones in there.

Peace

Yeah, it was nice.  Just a bit of a coincidence that I stumbled across it since I've never even seen a post by you before last week.  It's a small world... wide web.
