The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists

I was wondering if anyone here had heard of this book.

It's quite a good read. The thing I find most amusing about it is that it has inspired large amounts of guys to reguard this book as their bible and in some areas has even created something resembling a cult.

From Wikipedia:

The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pick-up artists is a popular non-fiction book which was among the first to expose the seduction community to the mainstream public. It was written by investigative reporter Neil Strauss as a chronicle of his journey from "average frustrated chump" to "master pickup artist" using techniques devised by a network of men frustrated by their incompetence in sexual seduction.

In the book, he adopts the pseudonym Style and details changing encounters with women as he studies with a slew of famous seduction gurus. Its publication began an explosion of pick-up artist jargon and reveals inside events in the rapidly-growing Mystery Method company of 2004.

The book was an instant success on the Internet and was featured on the New York Times Bestseller List for two months after its release in September 2005, reaching prominence again in 2007 during the broadcast of the hit series, VH1's The Pick-Up Artist.

In its original published hardcover format, the book was covered in black leather and bookmarked with red satin, similar to the Christian bible. Following its release, The Game was scrutinized on televised news programs as a secretive, demonic "bible" of pick-up arts, a criticism made true in part by the scores of pick-up artist hopefuls who avidly studied it for inspiration. The frequent rousing views of the Game are commonly misunderstood; it is not so much a "how to" as an autobiographical work. Nonetheless, in the mainstream lingo, the book has continued its reputation as a manual to acquiring success with women.

It also has appearances from celebrities such as Tom Cruise and Brittany Spears. Although it is based on a true story it's commonly thought to be somewhat exagerated. The message in the book is usually misunderstood, and in the end Neil Strauss it setting a bias against the shallow life of a pick up artist. Amzingly so many guys read this and go out and try to pick up girls with such lines as "Hey can I get you opinion on something? My neighbour thinks his cat is gay, do you think this could really be true?"

I still would say it's a great book, if only for entertainment value.

Missingo you lost me :S

You can actually play The Game here: http://www.thepickupgame.com/ :P

This stuff actually works but there just so many variables the cause and effects can be confused, and you have to question whether it is what most people actually want. I was encouraging people to read it because of it's extremely entertaining and certaintly something different.
