The Furry Fandom - What do you think?

Although it's a separate belief, I think the totemic/spiritual thing can be present in quite a bit of the furry stuff. It doesn't necessarily have to be separate just because it has its own definition. In a way, it could sort of apply to a portion of the furry community.

also, chill out with the mother-bear stuff. we're all adults here, and even if some things have been a bit abrasive, it's far better than what anyone expected. I don't see why you're so against this because it's not affecting you.

besides, either you're speaking in particularly angry apostrophe or in your rush to insert yourself into the conflict as a peacekeeper, you ignored the majority of the discussion taking place and the fact that not a lot of what you're saying is actually going on here.

It was progressing in that direction, and I wanted to stop it before it continued. What I said wasn't directed at anyone in particular or anything like that. There wasn't a whole lot of good discussion on the first page, in my opinion. Plus I'm interested in this thread in general, so I didn't want to see it get locked. :grin:

Personally, whatev'. As long as it's your secret fetish and not your waving-around-a-flag lifestyle, then it's cool. Furry is a fetish--that's all it is; no different or more deviant than bondage or imaginary polygamy or rape fetishes or what have you.

I mean, they don't have BDSM conventions (... as far as I'm aware) so the fact that furries have them is kinda weird, sure, and it kinda falls into the waggling-it-around category. But if you're a SECRET FURRY then that's cool. Don't go around advertising your site in the about the author section of your book and show that you'll be at some anthrocon in the "upcoming appearances" sidebar where everyone can see it* and you'll be fine, dearies.

*An author actually did this. A children's book author.

They're the least creepy people at anime cons, the friendliest, and usually the cleanest. Better than all the 400lb cloud strife's running around with no deodorant and those horrible cardboard swords they make.

That is, unless you dress up like pedobear.

I think 7% of cosplayers at anime north were cloud. And a couple tens of thousands of cosplayers.
The other 93% was naruto. (Just kidding)
So probably like a few hundred or so. It's a common cosplay.
I saw one or five every few minutes.

But yeah, I don't think there is anything wrong about being a furry, or dressing like animals or creatures. I suppose it's fun, so people do it. I don't think there is anything wrong with that; it's like being prejudiced because they use ruby instead of python. Plus catgirls are cute.

I associate furries with bestiality or the fantasy of partaking in bestiality, mainly because many Furry websites and pictures involve such sorts.

It may be a commonly mistaken fetish, such as BDSM, where the true followers enjoy it for different reasons than the mass audience may. However, it's not appropriate to compare the actual fetishes themselves for obvious reasons.

Furry "porn" id basically human porn but the human bodies is entirely covered in fur, which, to me, is absolutely revolting and is at best borderline bestiality fantasies.

Its funny that ost people don't know they are furries. It is also the appreciation of the art and subculture of animalistic humans. WHO DOESNT LIKE BUGS BUNNY AND THE THUNDER CATS!? Did anyone ever say "ewww furries?" When Bugs was on the screen? I dont think so. I agree there are nutcases that take things too far...after all its the loudest people who get noticed, correct?As for labels I don't say "HEY IM A FURY!!!" if it comes up in a conversation then yes.I think its the same along the lines of being Bisexual or homosexual. You can be proud of it without binging attention to yourself AND be civil about it. Its not who you completely are because there is no single label on one person.

Liking watching thunder cats or bugs bunny is a lot different to believing you are an animal, or wanting to have sex with an animal. That's completely different - somebody who enjoys watching Biker Grove isn't a pedophile, and somebody who likes girls isn't a transsexual.

I'm starting to feel a bit less... I don't know, "annoyed" by furries. The problem for me is "in your face furries". I don't mean that in the same way you have flaming hummersexuals; I mean... I don't care if someone is a furry. I don't care what they do. I don't even care if they are dressed as an animal. But as with anything, if your whole internet persona is based around the fact that you think you are a furry and every single thing you say is just a further jab at people saying "look at me I'm a furry aren't I lolsome" then it is annoying and silly. Although that isn't limited to furries. Hardcore Christians, coolcat atheists, teentranssexuals and internetgirls all do the same thing. Your Internet persona should be about you rather than about doing and saying things to get attention or to get people to like you. If you think you are a furry then fair play to you, go yiff someone. But don't go on and on and on about it.
