Disclaimer: The original intent of making this game was simply because I got bored. Compared to my previous attempt at game creation, this game is very light-hearted and quite humorous at times. Although I'm practically making up the plot as I go along, I've put some effort into making sure the gameplay is simple, yet challenging enough for the average RPG gamer.


Genre:
Fantasy, comedy

Synopsis:
All was well in the land of H!perion till a man by the name of Galad usurped the throne and had the previous Emperor and Empress put to death. Princess Sayumin however managed to escape the castle at the time of the siege with the help of her maid and bodyguard, Mina. Vowing revenge, Sayumin now has to find a way to reclaim her empire while eluding the clutches of the Grand Assassins, who were sent by Galad to capture her. But why does Galad want her back alive so badly? Perhaps she has something that he wants... Something that could possibly be the key to his malicious ambition.

Classes:
These are the fixed classes for the characters you will get in the game.

Bladesoul Warrior - Has the innate ability to draw powers from the soul of a blade.
Dark Knight - Practises the forbidden arts of soul essence manipulation.
Assassin - Stealthy fighter who specializes in inflicting status effects and in support skills.
Mystic Warrior - Martial arts expert who can control the flow of one's own soul essence
Doctor - A healer who combines his knowledge of herbs and medicine, and magic.
Hunter - Skilled bowsman who knows the weaknesses of his prey.
Sorceress - Wields magic and summons mythical beasts.

Skill System:
Each character has his or her own unique system of gaining new skills. Some might not be clear at first, but hints will be provided within the game itself.

Sidequests:
There will be a few sidequests, and most of them will be to gain the strongest weapons in the game.

Other Notes:
-I'm not including any item mixing, weapon smithing etc. systems, as it would take too much of my time just to figure out how to get it to work right.
-Other than some additional music files and pictures, I am not adding anything else that is custom-made. Most of what I used are the default stuff provided by the program.

28/6 - 'The Empress' Demo Version Release

Well, after about a week's worth of effort, here's the demo version of my game The Empress.

The Empress (Demo Version)

Features:
-Slightly more than an hour's worth of gaming pleasure.
-Introduction of the first three characters, Princess Sayumin the Bladesoul Warrior, Mina the Assassin, and Colt the Hunter.
-3 boss fights.
-Lots of hidden treasure to find!

Known Issues:
-When they start mentioning a 'phoenix', that's the cue for the opening credits to start. Whatever you do, do NOT click outside the game window, minimize it or drag the window around. This is because the game will pause during the opening scene, while the music will still play. This will no doubt result in the music being out of sync with the opening credits. I have no way to fix that as it seems to be part of the program's behaviour.

-Sayumin's skills are dependent on the weapon she equips. However, after equipping a weapon, you cannot immediately see the changes to the skill list. You must exit the menu first, then go back in before the changes will take place.

Other than that, have fun! And please comment or report any bugs to me here! =D

But my game is a dumb one meant for entertainment, I'm assuming that's your goal?

I'll download the demo and see.
 
Without providing screenshots, far fewer people will give your game a go, you should consider providing some. Unless my computer is acting up I can't see any.
 
Yep, the story can be serious at times, but it has more than its fair share of ridiculous/humorous situations.

Pretty cool, though the mapping is a bit under-par, along with some error in making them. Also, do you mind if you change the windowskin? I understand this project is mostly default system but at least change the default windowskin, it does not look good in my opinion. Aside from criticism, I like the slightly light-hearted story (Sayumin's personality kicks ass, by the way) and the music choices are good. For the non-RTP music did you compose them yourself?
 
I'm still learning how to map nicely, lol. Some of the tutorials on this forum are pretty good.

Windowskin sucks huh? K...I'll look into that.

I'm glad you like Sayumin. XD And no, I didn't make the music on my own. I basically had this collection of J-pop MIDI files lying around in my computer, so I thought heck, see if I could use any of these.

Considering this whole thing took one week, it'd be impossible for me to have made my own custom stuff for the game. I'm focussing on trying to finish making the game though, so I'll probably continue sticking to defaults unless I feel otherwise.
