My people, the last of our kind, have been run into hiding. Our brothers, the GHOSTs, have betrayed the Order, and taken the world hostage.
I am the last of my kind who was chosen to be a GEAR, the Genetically Enhanced Assault Regime. Some even claim I am the original. But that memory is lost to me.
I do not even know WHAT I am.
I was normal once, of that I am certain. But my name, my occupation, and even those close to me...all forgotten. Memories of my past have been wiped form my mind. I am a soldier, genetically enhanced with one purpose in mind.
I was made to kill.
But in these last two months after the Push, I have found myself constantly second guessing my own creation. I have been set with a charge of protecting the people here, both of my own kind, and of the human race. At first glance, there is no difference between the groups. Perhaps they themselves do not even know it yet. But I can see it. I know what to look for. And as I examine the humans each day I find myself with a question, pressing into the very marrow of my existence.
Am I even one of them anymore?

The Day of Nevermore will be my second "official" project, and the first time I take on a sci-fi style game. But, as a long time fan of the Gundam Saga, which played a large influential role in the design of this game, I feel that I'm up to the task. Hopefully it turns out alright.
The above is the introductory speech, to set the tone of the game. They are the words of main character Joyce Weylin, an Alpha. But we'll get to that. Let's take a deeper looking into the world of the Day of Nevermore, shall we? Be forewarned though, it's a fair bit of reading.
It is human nature to fight. To defend one's loved ones, or to stand by one's beliefs. Even so called "holy men" are willing to take another man's life for their own morale of personal gain. It is these sadistic sentiments that drive this planet, and they have been instilled for over a millenia. Since the dawn of man, humans have been driven by bloodlust and hatred.
And yet every man, woman, and child yearns for peace. The enduring peace that will never come.
Do we not see our own contradiction? There is no dual edged sword with which we can win the freedom of our people from the claws of warfare. There is no way to bring peace with battle. To believe otherwise is foolish. And yet, it is the ideals of so many...
If peace could be attained, it would have long since seen the sunrise. Even the so-called gods cannot wipe the blood away from the ground. We are like the gladiators of ancient times, mere puppets in the game of a higher power. Death is enthralling, and no matter how hard we try, we cannot escape its grip.
This notion of war for peace will do naught but destroy what is left of humanity. With every life lost in combat, we are charged with precious time we have left as a race.
And yet...in the quiet of my study, I can hear the war drums beating inside my soul. Perhaps the meaning of life is simply to take away the life of another. For even though we cannot seem to live with ourselves once we steal the life of another, there is no man who cannot deny the sadistic pleasure of the kill itself. It is these twisted emotions that will either bring hope to our race, or mark our place in history. We will become a forgotten people soon enough.
I just hope the next race to inhabit the Earth can learn from our mistakes.

In 2088, with global nuclear war imminent, the United Nations broke apart. In its place there became two major powers. The European Union (EU) and the Allied Armor Regime (AAR). Tensions began to grow between these two groups, and though the world was caught in another Cold War, the battles themselves would not come. The EU used this time to prepare their trump card.
Though the Americans were independent from the powers of the world - deciding instead to act as an independent nation - they saw the EU as the more powerful of the two sides, and kept their alliance with their old friends. They sent over scientists to aid with the research of creating genetically enhanced "super soldiers" to lead the front lines against the AAR. After many failed attempts, the first breakthrough was made, and the Alpha was born.
With each batch of genetic clones came less imperfections. Their soldiers became stronger, faster, smarter. Soon, the EU had two separate divisions of Alpha soldiers. The Genetic Humans Organization of Specialized Tactics (GHOSTs), compiled solely of the Alpha Elite, of Alpha 5's, and the Genetically Enhanced Assault Regime (GEARs), which was composed of the best Alpha 1 through 4 had to offer. Using their Mobile Armors, the EU was able to defeat the AAR and restore peace to the world.
The world began to start the colonization of space, and the EU was disbanded. In its place was formed the United Colonies of Freedom (UCF), and though the colonies and the planet were independent of one another, they relied on one another.
With war seemingly over, the need for the GHOSTs and GEARs was diminished, and the Alphas were disbanded, sent to live among the people of the new planet Earth.
The GHOSTs were separated from the world, seen as outcasts. The world knew of the horrific acts they had committed in war, and they wanted nothing to do with them. Secretly, the Alpha Elite began to plan a takeover, and started in the creation of a new, more powerful army. One of which the world had never before seen.
In February of 2104, with the melting of the snow, the GHOSTs unleashed their wrath on the world. The super soldiers that were designed to protect the people became their destroyers.

With the world held hostage by the GHOSTs, the free peoples have been forced into hiding. What is left of Europe is now the GHOST stronghold, and the look to push south into Africa.
There are a number of protection camps throughout Europe, hidden from the GHOSTs, where both Alphas and humans alike hide in hear. Near a small town in Germany is one such town, led and protected by Royce Weylin, once the commanding officer of the 6th Division of the GEARs.
When their encampment is discovered, Weylin must lead his people through the heart of GHOST territory, with the hope of reaching Africa, where they might find transport to the colonies. But countless enemies stand in the way, and Weylin is forced to take to the battlefield once more.
It is a small band against an army, and all hope seems lost. But there are others out there, and Weylin knows he has to find them. Though the battle looks grim, Weylin is a GEAR, and he was made to fight. No matter the odds, he vows to push forward, not for himself, but for those that look to him for hope.

Name: Royce Weylin
Age: 33
Description: Weylin was the commanding officer of the 6th Division during the war, and is the only Alpha 1 to ever become and officer. He also displays characteristics not shown by any other Alpha soldier. He is said to be the best pilot the EU had to offer, and though he does not show the typical love for battle shared by his brethren, he feels a rush he cannot find anywhere else when he is strapped inside his MA.
Name: Marcus Colt
Age: 28
Description: Colt is one of the four surviving members of the 6th Division left from the Push, and Weylin's 2nd Lieutenant. Colt is a combat specialist, and is trained in many forms of combat. He is an Alpha 4, and is known for his battle instincts that are unequaled in the former EU. He is faithful to his commander, and has a cheerful outlook, no matter the situation.
Name: Brennan Mercury
Age: 26
Description: Mercury is the technical mastermind of the 6th Division, and was arguably the best engineer of the former EU. He is an Alpha 3, and those he was made to fight, he tries to find ways around combat, believing that espionage is better suited to his skills. He is a skilled pilot however, and follows the orders given to him. He is quick to blame himself when things go wrong, and believes that he can find the answer to every situation.
Name: Aithne Zarwin
Age: 29
Description: Aithne showed more promise as an Alpha 4 than almost anyone in the Alpha Elite. She is one of the fastest pilots in the former EU, and her combats skills are near unequaled. She became a valued member of the 6th Division and her war honors were exceeded only by Weylin and Colt. She is the voice of reason for the group, and she has proven to be Weylin's most irreplaceable companion.

The Day of Nevermore is going to be very much a story-driven game. I do not have the capabilities of producing fantastic maps, or amazing graphics, and will be forced to use the resources given to me. Though I am more than willing to take help from anyone that is willing to give it, I have started this project with the notion that I would be going solo, so I must focus in on my strong points, which is the art of story telling.
This game is going to be a project of Armored Fantasy, and the second official project by the team (which of course, is merely myself and a friend of mine currently).
If you are interested in helping out with this project, feel free to send me a PM, or add me to AIM/MSN (check my profile for the information).
As this is my rough draft of how I hope things will play out, I am open to any and all feedback. I know I have not offered much in the way of plot, but that is stuff I am still working on. This is, of course, a concept, which is why I am posting it. I want my concept to be complete before I start working on the plot, which I feel to be the meat of a story.
Cheers.
