I'm not pretending I have a moral reason, I simply just don't give to charities unless I know that every penny I give is going to a good cause, if I donate £20 to this, I want to know they've used it ALL, not just £10 of it or less and kept the rest for themselves, otherwise I'd just have donated that much in the first place.

in charities' defense, it costs a lot to run an organization. only way 100% of the proceeds go to the cause is if the organization has no administrative cost and it is 100% volunteer-based. which isn't going to happen with most international funds especially b/c they are large scale (requiring, at minimum, accountants and management), and even if entirely volunteer-run, will need supplies for the volunteers and travel expenses.

what you want to be wary of are funds that have very high administrative costs and executives taking 6-figure+ salaries.

so your solution for a process in which a portion of the money may not be reaching its destination is to not donate at all? you do know that, even if half of a twenty-pound donation does get caught up in bureaucracy, zero pounds is actually less than that? it's true!

Jesus chirst mawk, you can call bullshit all you like, I've been brought up by my family to only give to charity if I'm sure that every penny I give is going to the cause, and until I have some clear proof that 100% of the money I give is getting to them, I'm not giving jack shit.

I just don't see why there's people here who are actually complaining and pretty much calling me wrong because I've chosen not to donate... donations are optional you know, and as of now, I've taken the option not to donate.

fun fact, administrative fees are just a fact of life. nonprofit organizations still need cash to run. the amount taken from any donation is miniscule, and it's not just going to line some dude's pocket. you're confusing corrupt charities with every other charity in existence.

been trawling for news about this lately and things seem pretty extreme in the long term, too. people are predicting spikes in inflation up to 25%, and about a quarter of the national crop has been destroyed so far. I wasn't expecting this kind of infrastructure damage on top of everything else. seems like the Taliban are taking the opportunity to stir some shit up, too.

My only hope is that the taliban folk (i.e. the sort of people who would join the taliban) will see how much "western" aid is coming in and realise they're wrong.

Instead they'll probably do what some website I found (sorry, lost the link, but it's probably an easy google) said - that the fires in russia, rain in France, and now the flooding in Pakistan are the result of God's wrath against homosexuals.

I actually make it standard policy to make a donation with every purchase I make on ebay. I donated about $150 last year (I always choose the highest option, which is usually $5 or $10). I actually purchased my college textbooks on ebay a week ago, and ended up donating about $40 to the organizations they help. If I remember correctly, most of them said that the donated money is going to their efforts in Pakistan. Plus, all that money I'm donating ends up as a tax writeoff at the end of the year, so it's like I never spent it in the first place.

this only really helps you if you donated so much or can itemize so much the itemized deduction nets a better gain than the standard

typically it will not help you until you either donate a very large sum of money (there is a cap though on what you can claim), spend a FUCKLOAD on medical care, and/or own taxable property. there are other things but those are the biggest ones for regular people filing single.

Well, since I'm still getting claimed as a dependent, it's my dad getting the writeoff. And he does qualify for it.
