The Bible Code - Fake... or is it

I was watching the History Chanel and a program called Bible Code/Armageddon

The show talked about what is generally known as the "Bible Code". They talked about how many philosophers and physicians, such as Issac Newton, and other rabbis and mathematics tried to figure out the code to the bible. Unfortunately, no luck was found when these men came up with nothing.

It wasn't until it was tried on computer programs where they came up with something astonishing. They used a method called ELS (click for description what ELS is).

Apparently when they tried searching for specific people and events that got amazing results. Such as when typing "Bible Code" they came up with "Made by computer" ; "Engraved on the tablets of God". Also with some astonding results such as when searching "Einstein" they came up with "Changed the way of Scientific research of the world" (or something close to that, can't remember quite the details.). Along with these and others such as Wright Brothers - Airplanes, Hitler - Evil Man, Slaughter, Edison - Lightbulb... it goes on and on.

What do you guys think? Do you think that it just happens to be a coincidence? Or one of the things in the world that you just can't explain?
Personally I think that it is pretty phenomenal. Especially when being on the edge of atheism and Catholicism, this definitely makes me lean towards the latter.

Edit: Damn-it, F***ing History doesn't reveal until the end that it's a bit of gibberish, they found stuff in the novel "Moby Dick". Still discuss if you wish. Sorry about this

I'm clueless as to how long the bible is, but I'm guessing it's pretty long. with that many letters, such words are bound to come up sooner or later. Random chance. Nothing more. also, IF those were put in there by god in order to prove that he knows everything, why didn't he just write in the book somewhere:

"Yo, it's god. Hitlers gonna kill a bunch of people, Edison is going to invent the light bulb, and you are going to scratch your nose as you read this. I EXIST. KTHNXBAI"

At least that's my opinion.

EDIT: I knew it! I just read the edit you added, and I was right! Go me!

Haha yes, I guess that with all those word there has to be combinations... but then again when they did certain searches to predict future events, they did get very small grids with pretty exact answers (which came true). They said that it is hard to use in the fact that they have to decifer what to highlight, and in what order. So chance? yes, but also they have a bunch of small grids with predictions come true, along with long phrases.

So even though it was said that, I'm still borderline.

Unless a non-christian person was to count out the letters by hand in order to find the same results and be all astonished like... I would have to call it a fake. Even if we are to assume that the christian god is Teh Gawd, why the hell would he put a strange ass code in his book? Much less in the translated english version? How many translations has that gone through? Old ass hewbrew and latin to english with the very first printing press? (Typo city, just begging for spelling errors) then from there the bible was intrepreted into the many different versions. You might as well say that the caption they put under the picture of the first cave painting in your history book has a secret code that would tell you how to save the world if you put it through some word filter. I know I sound overly sceptic, but think about it. We are soooo far from the original bible writings, why would it all spell out now? Because the christian churches realize how unpopular they are these days. Propoganda.

Some sceptics used the same method on a copy of Moby Dick, and found a prophecy that the "discover" of the Bible Code would be assassinated, as well as Indira Gandhi, Rene Moawad, Leon Trotsky, Martin Luther King, Engelbert Dollfuss, John F. Kennedy, Abraham Lincoln, Yitzhak Rabin, and Princess Diana.

Furthermore, Moby Dick predicated a "bloody battle in Afghanistan", after "Swift destruction" intersects with "World Trade Center" which is "In NYC". Nearby, there are also the names "Osama", "Omar", "Atef" and "Atta". Also predicted is a "siege" and "ground war" involving "NATO" and covered by "CNN".

:eek:uch:

i've seen the program that the topic-starter is talking about, they did do this with the original hebrew text.

the obvious possibility of hiding these things within the bible is so people wouldn't be able to change god's plan, or prevent what is supposed to happen.

This is may favorite quote from the article on ESL that you linked us to:

It has also predicted that the world will be destroyed in the year 2012 by a massive meteor and/or an earthquake.

Do you know why? Because the ancient Mayan calendar supposedly predicts the end of the "current" world in December of 2012. I think that's kinda weird, considering the fact that they originate on two seperate continents and are thousands of years apart from each other.

If you'll look at this from a non-baised christian standpoint, a neutral side if you will; then I will try to look at it from a christian standpoint. (Not too hard, being a former Jesus jumper) Note: They used to jump around at my old church...

Hypothetical Christian Me: Wow, they found a code in the bible, that's kinda cool. I wonder how they did that. -watches show- Hmm.... uh huh... uh huh... I see, they used computers. Neat! God must be real... or wait, why would God give us such a definite sign of his exsistance? He's supposed to let us figure it out on our own. Those who believe in me and have seen me are bless, but those who have not seen but believe are even more blessed or saints or something like that. Right? Nah... this must be the church trying to get more people to join our relgion... no harm in that, but I don't think it's really that real... neat idea though.

i thought the mayan's predicted a giant dragon would come and flood the earth with water from it's mouth? i could be mistaken of which people said this, but i'm sure one of them did. that would be slightly cooler than a meteor (which is still cool), and miles cooler than an earthquake.

wolfgang, god DID give us a definite sign of his existence (if you believe these things): jesus, and the bible. the reason or purpose of the bible code is unknown for sure, but it's likely some other purpose than for god to 'prove his existence'.
they usually look for these things in the torah, apparently. so this is largely more of a jewish thing than a christian thing. also i'm not a christian. :}

I persoanlly think you should get to know the Richter scale a little better. They put the upper limit on that thing a little high. Do you want to know how high? The conventional top is Magnitude 10, but that's only becasue Richter's top of the scale, a Magnitude 12, would release enough energy to split Earth in half, and a magnitude 11 would be a relative equivalent to a large meteorite impact. Not to mention the fact that they've never recorded a magnitude 10 earthquake.

Isn't that because it's an expodential scale? 2 is not twice as big as 1, but 2 is 1 squared? Atleast that was my understanding of the Richter's scale. Most scientific scales tend to do that, the Ph scale for example. If you have something on the far end of either base or acid, it is far more dangerous then the number below it. Due to the expodential mulplicity.

no matter how you slice an earthquake, it'll never be as cool as a dragon hydro-pumping the planet.
and an earthquake with the same force as a meteor still isn't a meteor. it's like a tofu meteor.

and splitting the earth might benefit us. at least we'd be rid of japan. :0
no i'm not being serious.
