The quality of MIDI doesn't really depends on the sound card, in fact there's many different kinds of MIDI , per example, for cell phones you use the GM Lite, Some games though used (maybe still using?) the DLS-1 system which basically offers the possibility of transferring sounds unto the soundcard before playing back the musical sequence. This way you'll have the same sound in every computer. I believe that's how RMXP works.
