The 5-Year Contest Screenshot Thread

This thread is the exact same as the screenshot thread in Project Discussion, except it is reserved solely for screenshots of contest projects. The same rules still apply:

1. Title screens aren't screenshots
2. Don't post screenshots purely for the purpose of getting help; there's another thread here for that
3. Try to give us a brief description of what's going on in the screenshot

What are you waiting for? Get posting!!

Sure, I'll go first.
Screen1.jpg

An intercom barks commands in the abode of Preston and Elton. The oppressed life of the Citadel is clearly stated.
Screen2.jpg

Showing off the little Song Info Popup that is displayed when a new song commences.
Screen3.jpg

The dingy halls of the B Corridor in the Lower Ward.
Screen4.jpg

The Lower Ward. A small market selling goods is about as free as the economy gets down there.

I know the shots are a little dark. I'm not too concerned with the view of things, as there isn't too much pretty stuff to see. I'm trying to set atmosphere with these shots.

@Dr. Gonzo: Those look really cool! I like the style of tileset + characters you're using.

Here's two screenshots from my still topic-less project:

I will be making a topic as soon as I have some time to do so ;)

yes, i know: I'm using RMXP + edited RTP... But my game is going to be good anyway >:D

Ok, thanks. I don't have a mapper yet, so I did some quick maps by myself (mapping is not my strongest point...). I updated the previous post: I added some more detail. I'll post them in the improvement thread too.

(anyone wanna to be a mapper ^_^)

I would work on improving your own mapping rather than looking for a mapper! How else will you learn?

Your cliffs aren't all that bad (apart from some small errors, you did well). It's only some parts that are too straight or too plain. But for that I would migrate to the mapping improvement area (you should also check out some tutorials, Tindy's got a great one for general tips).

EDIT: And I see you already have. Never mind me.

Ooh, although I've posted saying I don't think I'll get this finished in time, even if not I think it's something I'd like to carry on...

I've got the basic systems down for it at the moment (Didn't take long actually), it's just the spriting that's gonna' take forever, so excuse this screenshot for being so... plain...

This proves JBrist DOES infact work on games !

It's just showing off the basic system, with the main character (The green guy... DUH), doing a falcon punch to some random enemy...

Actually I've got around 7-8 different attack animations, so you won't have to look at him doing the same thing over and over, there's variety, and it all works nice...

The health is hearts, traditional and easy to make... and the thing beside it is the "Adrenaline Meter", here's a basic rundown as to how it works;

When you HIT, not kill, an enemy, it goes up one light, and if you get hit, it goes down a light. Once all the lights are full, your next attack will inflict double damage, much like a critical hit, except I'm thinking of making a different animation for it. I'm also going to be adding an item that gives you an "Adrenaline Rush", which I guess you've figured out, will fill up the meter for a limited amount of time, maybe 10-20 seconds or so, so each attack will deal twice the damage, pretty handy actually.

So yeah, anyone got any comments on that ONE picture so far ?

jbrist, that's lookin' pretty cool. :3 The sprites don't stand out from the background enough, though, especially the green guy. I recommend making the outlines in the background less dark and maybe decreasing the saturation or something.

Been awhile since I posted on here, /lurking mode off.

Still a bit too early for me to post a project thread, hopefully I can finalize my characters and plot and have one in the next few days. I got an idea for a pretty cool concept when I initially read the contest, but I had to make sure I could pull it off graphically first.

Um, Yeah. Kind of just a test, there's still quite a bit more I need to tweak and add. Is it too dark though?

Well Ven, they're tiles, and they're meant to be shiny, I guess other people don't see it that way, lol...

Peri, I AM NOT TWIRLY !!!, also, I tried to get each colour with the right amount of contrast between shades, I mean, it looks fine to me, although the green looks like a blue/green, maybe I could change it...

i was saying in a nice way that the shading on the tiles was bad. they look like bumps because the outer portions of the squares are dark and the center is light. it's like a semi-pillow-shade.

if you want to demonstrate glossiness on a flat surface it's better to do it with shiny streaks than bubbly light spots.

Wow JB, didn't know you did pixel art  (though I haven't been in PAA in a while). That looks really good, I normally don't like tinyscreens but that looks like it would play really well!

Oh yeah Wyatt, I do quite alot of pixelling to be fair, I just don't show a lot of it on the forums... infact, I hardly show any at all !

And Ven, yeah I guess it DOES look pillowshaded in a way, but I doubt I'll go back to it unless I can think of a way to do it properly (Unless you want to demonstrate, lol...)

the wood is awful but you see what i mean on the purple tiles right?
another good example is the glass tiles on the heaven(??) tileset in the rtp.

Jason

Awesome Bro

Ah I see what you mean now, I'll do a quick rivision and see how it looks.

Okay so here's how it looks now;
