Tax Refund means: Upgrade

Well,

I decided that with this year's refund I should improve my productivity, or use it as an excuse to improve my gaming experience.

The upgrade I'm planning is in two phases, first: 3x30" displays followed by 3xGTX 580 via Palit Microsystem's 3GB model once it's released.

So far I've decided on the HP ZR30w Black 30". Based upon its specs it's an in plane switching display (IPS vs TN, or twisted nematic field) which means its processing latency is a bit higher, but given it's a CCFL vs a white LED its color range (30-bit color 1.07B colors vs 24-bit color 16.7M colors or 64 times the color), and uniformity is a bit better. From my understanding of color modes, 32-bit True color doesn't use the alpha channel, effectively making it 24-bits.

I looked at the Dell U3011 ultrasharp, but its processing lag was 23.31 ms giving it an effective max FPS of 42, assuming I understand the meaning of the input processing lag.

Given that I've already decided on upgrading, any suggestions on possible alternative displays?

I don't know anything about current tech but I do know that if I were to have multiple monitors I'd want a seamless display.

Something like this:

But that's just me.

i agree.

the only way i'd go separate monitors, is if i recorded my gameplay more often. i see a lot of live stream people who play games (league of legends for instance), and they have the game show up on one monitor while the other has all their shit on it (vent, screen capping programs, etc). it's pretty effective, and i might do that myself.

Personally, as much as I would want a seemless display, they are too expensive and impractical. why spend 3x as much for one super wide monitor than getting 2-3 separate monitors with the same resolution.

i balked about having multiple monitors for a while but holy doodie fuck ... the multitasking ... oh the productivity of it all ...

yeah ^

well at home one of my monitors is a diff res than the other (we had it lying around; i didn't buy it). my main one for gammin' is 1920x1200 and the little secondary one is 1440x900. it bothered me at first but it does take less resources than two 1920x1200s ... and what do i need a super high resolution for when that secondary monitor is devoted only to text files and web pages and shit?

but if i had an assload of money to blow ... and i wasn't allowed to save it or something ... and my comp was as upgraded as it could ever be ... then yeah, the seamless thing is pretty sweet.

its pretty much the same for me, except my primary is 1920x1080 (good thing, too, cuz PS3s dont support 16:10). but, yeah, on my secondary, i have my cpu, itunes, weather and clock widgets as well as last.fm and xchat open almost permanently.

Well, first display is on its way.

I decided, from performance reviews, of even the 3GB model, of the GTX 580 that I'll probably wait for the Kepler line of nVidia GPUs. As time goes on, I'll add to the list of displays (up to three.) For now I've purchased one HP ZR30W display and one extra GTX 480 for the time being ($100 cheaper than when I bought the first one, six months ago.) Given that I can't reasonably use 3x 580 to power three of the displays at max resolution (with anti-aliasing), it doesn't make sense to buy them.

HP monitors are always really expensive, but yeah they definitely are great monitors. I've never had a bad experience with one. Back when I was monitor-shopping for myself, I just couldn't find anything with the same color or clarity quality with a comparable ms rate.
