What am i doing wrong?

You can still use $game_variables[2].

Try 0.5 instead of .5.

Ah, take the = out from *=.

Well, he could use *= without getting a syntax error, that isn't what is causing his error. And if the brackets were what caused his error it would say something about a comparison of a fixnum and an array. Tell us what you have before and after that line (Give us like 5 lines in either direction)

You can use parenthesis but it's not required.

Yeah, but if any of the things wrong with his line that he showed us were the mistake, i think it would give us a more specific error than Syntax Error.
