Yeah, it seems to me that forums would be an awful medium for looking for resources, but then no one used the resource manager, so...???

I did a lot, actually. :(

Especially when I was looking for icons and RTP addons.

People use them a lot in other places. The one we used to have got a lot of activity. The resource manager was a dud and nobody used it though.

I think given we're a forum, if we're having resources it should be a forum not some external manager etc. Forums are great for chat, critique, etc; they're designed for sharing not leeching and it gives the concept of improving on resources and community resource making rather than just a download manager. That was a mistake tbh.

The only thing I didn't like about the forums for resources, was looking. I would put something in the search bar and I'd get VX stuff when I'm using XP or something like that. Or I'd get requests that were never filled and, thus no resource. o.o

Maybe the solution is forcing people to add category tags for new threads in a resource forum that can then be searched. So it stays as a forum, but you can still look up charsets for XP or whatever if you want to.

A while back ago when I first came active again I gave a bunch of suggestions on the shape of the art board. I still feel very strongly about my ideas. I still think we should have a resource section (that includes custom stuff, edits & rips) and then a completely different forum for artwork that's just for artwork in general that doesn't necessarily have to do with game making or not. Music could be lumped in to either for a game or not... but that's up to the person on if they think it's something that is made specific for a game or they're just showing their music... so it can be placed either spot.

We could have critique thread or forum for stuff that is made for games and not meant to be used as resources. So it's very clear what's what if that is going to be a problem. I also think a HUGE amount of people originally came to rpg forums to get either ideas (as in seeing what others can do with the program and play them), look for how-to-tutorials, or get graphical / musical / script resources. Tell me these weren't your reasons. I came originally for those same reasons and can tell you I didn't really stick around long to places that didn't have a huge place for graphics. The reason why I'm here is because I already know the people around here but what makes me come back to places normally is to check out new art (because I like that stuff)... and also why I like RMVX.net so much. They have a really strong resource section which is what this resource section used to look like back in the day which is really a shame.

Please believe me.

As for the art forum, yeah, I agree it's dead. I've been considering merging Edits & Rips with artwork, but it's really hard to undo if we decide it was a bad idea. I honestly wouldn't object to merging all of the subforums into one board, but iirc people started freaking out last time I suggested that. Thoughts? And what other suggestions do people have?
Yes I was the one freaking out.
They don't belong in a combination unless there is a legitimate and well-done construct in place that separates art by type.

As there is not, and I can't think of any that would be easy to apply retroactively, I'm against merging non-art with art, simply because both categories describe things you look at and may or may not be able to use in some creative/visual fashion.

Edits & rips are not art, nor do they imply it; they should not be mixed.

And IDT the art board is dead -- there are just a few good "catchall" threads in there that get the activity. When most people just want to doodle & show their doodles, they can post in the Post a Sketch thread, etc. People seldom have galleries of finished works to showcase. And, if they did, they would only be one-shot deals that are infrequently/seldomly/never updated.

So the board would look as dead as ever. Even if it's not.

I DO agree with a better tagging system. But it'll take a HUGE amount of work to make tags apply to all the umpteen million things spanning back these last 6+ years.
Especially considering the image links may very well be broken.

I think the best first step would be to get a new image/resource host.
A secure one ...

I think all .org pages should have some kind of pornography available. I'm sick of having to browse away every time i feel horny. It's a pain in the ass!
