Suffering from lag!

Hi. I'm currently working on a rather ambitious project at the moment using RMXP.
Problem is... I'm using a PC that was bought when windows 98 was farely new.
Heres my situation: I've got a map with a width of 100 and height of 15 and it has 50 events in this map. I'm now suffering from some lag and was wondering if I'm pushing it a bit with the amount of events I have on this one map or wether it's just because my PC is antique!
Does that seem like rather alot of events to have on one map that is relatively small or is it my computer.
I would really appreciate any help or advice on this.

My old computer was win 98 SE and I used XP with no problems at all...

My suggestion would be to go into the task manager and close down everything that's not related to the basic running of your computer and try that. I'd have to ask how many events are actually active though, is it 50 moving objects, things counting variables, etc, or just run of the mill stuff?

Most of the events are active at first, but after alot of events have been 'used' and have the 'erase event' command at the end the lag continues. I do have one event running on a Parellel Process though that is doing alot of variable counting and displaying small PNG pictures at the same time depending on what the variables are.

I have a Windows XP and my game just started to lag with a 200x200 map and sbout 150 events... So I think it's both your computer ad the ammount of events. Since your comp is older it doesn't have as much ram, megs, etc. So it will lag a lot faster than a more recent versoin of Windows (ecept Vista). If you can't take any of the events out, It's not terible to have some lag, but if you can avoid it avoid it :). And I think when lag starts it stays on the map (not for the whole game just for that map).

Hope I helped!

Thanks bobis888.
When I removed the one event from that map that I mentioned in the previous post it ran alot better. But it is also the most important event on the map so I need to keep it.
I think I'm just going to have to continue, hoping that its not so laggy on a more modern computer.

yup, a single ambitious parallel process can kill your entire map. are you including wait commands in your parallel process? that can cut down on lag if it doesnt have to be running every frame.

Hmmm, wait commands eh? I'll have a go at that, see if I can add some and if it will make any difference.
Ta!

Edit: Wow!  Simply adding a wait command for about 30 frames isn't enough to notice a delay but its made a huge difference. I'm much happier now.  Thanks lordnick5000!
