Strawberry's Sketches and Art - Shield Your Eyes!

Breaking off from the sketch thread, so I can watch my progress. I'll post some old drawings of mine for major comparison.

I'm an amateur artist, but I love to doodle sooooo much. It's fun! Why am I posting my sketches here? To get comments and critique. You'll probably see a mixture of a bunch of styles, and boy will it vary. o.o

Sketches:

A blurry image of an RP character that's not mine... I should've taken the picture better. I draw on graph paper to help me, by the way.

I think that you are doing well miss strawberry
sometimes though I think that your heads tend to seem extremely big in the cranium area, (i dont know this is just me)
the eyes are a little but off center but that is nit picking
your shoulders are a little broad but that might be me again x:

anyways, you have improved 10fold since you first started posting stuff and it is evidence that you are trying really hard
and you just keep on trying because it is a treat to watch you

I think I got the big head syndrome from watching Star draw anime. Somebody HELP ME. :(

I actually don't know how to draw smaller heads with these weird hairstyles.

But thanks, Bacon. ^^

Jason

Awesome Bro

Well maybe try drawing a smaller head, but without the weird hairstyle, or you could draw the head first (As a bald cranium) and then draw your hair onto it from there, since it'll hopefully work out in proper proportions so they don't look as if they'd tip over onto their heads if they lost balance, lol... or you could just scrap the hairstyles and try from scratch with some simple hairstyles, and maybe get a little more creative from there, adding on until it looks right.

This brings up a good point:

Strawberry how much planning do you do beforehand?

What I usually do is first I just block out the basics, then I flesh it out and add things such where I want the hair and eyes to go, and then finally i actually draw it.

Since you are using pencil, this might be a good idea especially. Just dont press hard.~
(I am assuming that you aren't)
I think that why some of your heads also look so big is because, what jbrist said, the hair may be too poofy and is raised too high.

Well it actually varies. XD

Sometimes I draw the whole outline (I always start with the face for some reason :X), including the cranium without no hair or no clothes (I have a picture like that right now actually).

Outline with no body parts below! NSFW? I dunno.
DSCF0508.jpg

It's poorly drawn (I can't draw hands), but yeah, that's what I drew for this drawing. Mainly because I didn't know who I was drawing...

Sometimes I copy Star and draw the hair after the face... Look what he did! >< Silly Star.

Your art looks awesome.
About the ones above you posted, the younger version should look a little shorter, maybe shorten the legs, they seem too long.

yeah the legs are a little bit long
but its not a huge deal

also you cant practice hands if you keep trying to hide them
_____

I used to be terrible with hands. I couldn't draw them to save my life. But one day, it just clicked and I started to do hands. There was no explanation for it, there was a sudden improvement.

But if i didnt practice before then I dont think that would of happened.

I am still not great with hands but i at least draw them for practice
so go and practice and practice. Dont keep hiding your hands. o;

Just remember that hands have three joints instead of two.
Look at your hand before drawing the hand pose to see how it will react.

My brother did some hand exercise at art class at his high school, it really helped him so he's better at me at hands... Apparently it's about looking at the small lines instead of the big picture... The exercise was to draw hands by looking at yours while not looking at what you're drawing.

As for the younger girl, the basic proportions I guess was to make the legs half of the height of the character, or something around there.

I like the art style for the face though, and for the younger and older versions I'm jealous how you can tell their the same person by just looking at the pictures. Keep it up, this is very inspirational!

Thanks guys. Yeah, I guess her as a young girl is a bit off. :X

I drew the same girl again. I think I like her too much. XD I tried to draw her hands this time. Yeah. >>

Sorry about the anime-esque face. I couldn't make her look cute using realism. :(

I like the faces of the two drawings, the 2nd one though, her hips are a bit to large. The hands should be a little bit smaller, so it can almost cover the face entirely with fingers outspread. You're hands are getting better, but remember that the fingers curve, but not enough to make it like a crab claw like the thumb in the 2nd picture on her right hand. Also remember to put in fingernails.

I did fix the hands, but not the hips. Too lazy to erase. I guess I still have hip problems when it comes to drawing. XD

Here's me practicing realism. I don't like her shoulders or the top of her head, but eh.

DSCF0520.jpg

Strawberry, these are cool, but you should try drawing guys too! Branching out helps you push yourself and continue to improve as an artist. You're definitely getting better, though.

You're right Peri. All I draw are girls (they're cute and I'm extremely biased), so I dubbed today until next Friday - DRAW MALES WEEK! YAY.

To begin, I drew two males. ^^

Here's this guy. I don't know, I don't really like it. Not because it's realism, but because I think his hair blows (it's supposed to be messy and unkempt....) and I can't draw hair at like ALL. Gah...

DSCF0525.jpg

Then I drew the most random modern, male character ever. He's so generic, eh. It's not realism, but whatever. I like this one better than the other one, for some reason. Maybe because it's simple. I dunno.

DSCF0526.jpg

I like the last drawing... just two things bothering me... his left thumb (looks like he shoved it in a pencil sharpener), and his crotch (too feminine if you get my meaning)....

Hahaha. I natually draw a lot of chicks, so of course his crotch is feminine. XD

That's why it's DRAW MALES WEEK! YAY!

SO I can practice males AND hands. Hands are the worst. :(

I posted my story up - but I'm no writer. XD

Two characters from my game, Ghost Shards: Requiem - Kyran and Aelina.

DSCF0535.jpg

A girl I drew. I was supposed to draw doods this week, but I couldn't find any good references at like, all. ;_;
